Software Reviews of Acronis True Image 11 Home [OLD VERSION]Customer Review: Nearly impossible to restore individual files Summary: 1 StarsI needed to restore particular files from a backup on DVDs to a new PC. The process was a nightmare. First, I had to swap DVD's for at least 45 minutes just to get the directory tree to complete. Then, when I started to restore the files, the DVD swapping got ridiculous. The PC would read from a DVD for a second or two and then require a different DVD. After about another 45 minutes, I gave up. Acronis support told me that DVD swapping hundreds of time is normal. This software may be fine for backing up to a tape drive or external hard drive, but don't even think of using it to backup to DVDs.
Customer Review: Junkware... Summary: 1 StarsFirst and foremost, this software has no support from the developer. If it works, that's great. If it doesn't, you're on your own.
A single disk 'ghost' image of the entire hard drive seems to work fine. I have restored this about six times without a problem.
A two disk ghost of an almost identical system does not restore. I tried twice, and both times the restoration process continually prompts me to change disks from the first to the last to the first to the last - you get the picture. On the second restoration attempt after over a dozen disk changes (and no indication of any progress toward actually restoring the image) I just gave up.
Acronis' online support was worse than useless. Searching both their FAQs and their forums resulted in advertisements for pretty much everything - but nothing that was even remotely related to the problem I was experiencing or a solution to it.
Customer Review: Acronis True Image 11 Summary: 5 StarsWell I have been using this Acronis True Image 11 since December 31, 2008. It was not so easy for me to use at first until I printed out the whole instructions for using it. Once I did this I was able to do everything I wanted to do along with the Iomega Prestige 500 GB USB 2.0 External Destop Hard Drive which I also bought on Amazon. I am new to computers so I expected to have a bit of trouble at first. I am pleased that I bought this instead of the Acronis True Home Image 2009 which has a poor rating from the reviews that I have read on Amazon website as well as other websites.
Customer Review: a lifesaver! Summary: 5 StarsI bought Acronis TrueImage 11 Home one year ago with the aim to avoid the reinstallation nightmare that consequences from the usual Windows XP decadence cycle. My use case was simply to save the last good state of my full XP installation. I never expected a hardware failure though, the worst was yet to come.
I still remember the TrueImage installation was straightforward, contrary to other reviews I found the software very intuitive. I then had a few questions and the technical support responded promptly. I was very happy with the product but I had not yet come to a recovery process so I did not feel like writing a review quite yet.
From the very beginning I created an Acronis bootable CD and put it somewhere (always keep it accessible). Ever since then I would sporadically create backups from the option "Backup -> My Computer -> Disk and Partitions" without properly scheduling them (my bad). I created my last full incremental backup on September 2008.
My setup is like this:
- C drive a SATA WD 150GB Raptor 10K rpm
- D drive a SATA WD 500GB
- Z drive an USB WD 500GB dedicated Acronis "Secure Zone"
Two days ago I had a system freeze, after restart XP chkdsk activated and that was it, C would not boot anymore, not even in safe-mode. I was really overstressed, some critical data was there that I did not backup, oh no! I wasted many night hours trying to boot from the faulty Raptor. Next morning I went out and bought a new 150GB drive. And it was then when I truly appreciated having Acronis TrueImage. For the first time I booted from the Acronis bootable CD, it worked perfectly, an exemplar of elegance and efficiency. I had my full system flawlessly installed exactly as it was last September 2008 within 30 minutes! that was really awesome! Even though I setup my backup to be full C: and D: at the time of the recovery you can specify which one you want back either of them or both.
I then plugged the former almost dead C: Raptor as data drive, the NTFS partition was inaccessible to XP. I called a HDD recovery service for a quotation and they asked for over a 1K and said it would take over a week, not an option! I tried many Partition Recovery tools without success, they were very tricky business, I didn't know if to clone the disk or to rebuild partition tables. I did not want the whole ex-C drive but just a few critical files. Finally found Quetek File Scavenger that did the job, paid the personal license for 49$ and recovered all of my critical files!
I highly recommend Acronis TrueImage Home 11, it was really a lifesaver. After this 2-days sequel I learned my lesson, from now on I will schedule my backups at least twice a month.
Customer Review: DO NOT PURCHASE Summary: 1 StarsI asked for this because I wanted a total backup including the OS. Well I did one backup for the first, could access the external HD from the computer. Then did another backup, well it went in and deleted all my documents, and can not access any of the files with out jumping through hoops. Opens up at least 4 windows. The first original backup showed almost everything including MyDocuments and all the stuff I had in that. Tech support only reads from book, normal I know but basic runaround. Their help pages go from one link to another, no fixes built in and the pages showing do not match what is in software. 4 hours I have spent trying to restore what was in my first backup. Lost everything with the second backup with this defective product. There is now nothing in My Documents.
