Software Reviews of Fluenz Version F2: Spanish 1+2 (Win/Mac) with software DVDs, audio CDs, podcasts, and Navigator. Learn Spanish with the latest upgrade.Customer Review: Fluenz - Great Progam Summary: 5 StarsI have really enjoyed my Fluenz experience. I bought the program after doing some research online and reading various reviews of language learning programs. The reviews compared Rosetta Stone and other products. Fluenz was rated equal to or higher than those products. The one negative that some of the reviews gave Fluenz was that it did not have speech recognition software. I have found that the feature is not necessary and I never have missed it. You practice pronunciation by saying a word or phrase, and the program plays a person saying it properly, so its pretty easy to compare.
I think what makes the learning process more effective for me is that the program uses different learning techniques. For example, I'm a visual person, so when someone speaks a dialogue in the program, you can elect to have subtitles in english and/or spanish. That helps me learn more effectively.
Another factor that has worked out well is the customer service. Its something that I did not consider when buying the program. Shortly after I bought the program, I needed to contact customer service because I bought a MAC. Their response was great. They were responsive and I am very happy with the way they solved my problem. Its one reason I am very high on the product.
Customer Review: Tops in Customer Support Summary: 5 StarsI'd like to comment first on the customer support provided by Fluenz. After receiving and trying their product, I emailed customer service asking for something so over-the-top; that I offered to pay for it. I sent the email at 6AM on a Saturday. I got back an answer just two hours later from a Fluenz employee, stating that Fluenz would comply with my request for free. The company followed up on Monday. I was quite impressed!
I tried Rosetta Stone before ordering from Fluenz. I disagreed with the Rosetta approach of putting the student in the same child-like environment, as when the student learned their first language. The child doesn't possess a "reference" language; whereas the adult student does. When the adult English-speaking student is informed that the French "maison" means "house"; he doesn't need to be immersed in a subsequent 5 minutes of viewing pictures of houses. He can mentally visualize a house, and then move on to other forms of practice.
I actually look forward to tackling each new lesson with Fluenz. Unlike other teaching programs that have you memorize sentence fragments to meet the basic needs of transportation, eating, and keeping a roof over your head, Fluenz focuses on teaching how to build sentence structure. I find that I'm starting to express myself in ways that go way beyond the course material.
I hope to be their first customer; if-and-when Fluenz ever releases French 3 & 4.
Customer Review: Great use of multi-media Summary: 5 StarsFluenz Spanish 1+2 Learning Suite Windows, Including DVDs, Audio CDs, Podcasts, and Fluenz Navigator. Next-Generation Spanish Learning Software
Fluenz Spanish is the best use of mult-media learning I have seen. I looked at several other programs before buying Fluenz. You learn through seeing, listening, and writing for the ultimate in reinforced learning. Their customer support is top notch with emails answered in just a matter of moments. Sonia Gil is a fantastic teacher and you really do feel like she is in the room with you. If I had to search for any complaints, all I could come up with is one of the male voices in the audio components tends to talk a bit fast and mash words together like a real Spanish speaker. I guess you have to get used to that sooner or later since that is real world.
Customer Review: More Show than Go Summary: 3 StarsI bought Fluenz Spanish 1 and 2 after reading many positive reviews. However overall I would rate this program as average.
Some of the lessons are quite good. You will get plenty of reinforcement in each lesson with matching and written exercises. And they've really tried hard to make it interesting with the graphics and varied exercises.
However sometimes the execution isn't very good. The written exercises can sometimes be frustrating because it will tell you something is wrong when what you've written out is correct.
Also, a few of the conversations used as the basis for the lessons are disjointed and at times seem like random thoughts just thrown out. You get to the end of some of these conversations and think, what was that?
Another disappointing thing is that the navigation in each lesson goes only one way -- forward. You want to go back to a previous frame or another part of the lesson? Or start back where you left off in the lesson? Forget it. You have to start back and the beginning and click next until you get to where you want. If they did usability testing it doesn't show.
Finally, the podcasts are dreadful. If you've heard them you know what I mean. The audio tracks from the CD are too short and not worthwhile.
There's no doubt Fluenz is flashy and at times quite good. But while you'll learn some useful vocabulary with Fluenz, you might end up feeling like you didn't really get your money's worth.
Customer Review: Fluenz Spanish Summary: 5 StarsI was unsure of this product when I had stumbled across it in my search for a language program. And I had checked out all the reviews but reviews can be misleading so that still was not enough. So then Fluenz offered this demo and I checked it out and from there I was hooked. I fell in love with the program and all that it had to offer and with how easy it was to navigate through and how much I had learned just from the demo. I loved the program so much but just had to check out the what the competition program was like and as I had thought it just could not compare. I then started saving up for the Fluenz program and I have been one very satisfied customer ever since. A special thanks goes go the Fluenz lab for answering all of my questions. I am ever so happy that this program was invented and look forward to becoming fully fluent in Spanish through the use of this wonderful and innovative program.
