Software Reviews of Kaspersky Anti-Virus 7.0 [OLD VERSION]Customer Review: big problems Summary: 1 StarsI recently installed Kaspersky 7 on my desktop when the K-6 was about to expire. Now I am having big problems accessing sites that previously worked fine, including my bank(fortunately, I have a different anti virus program on my laptop and so am able to access info that way). Keep getting "Certificate error" messages. I had Kaspersky 6 for a year and all was OK. Recently purchased 7 from Amazon and nothing but trouble since. My daughter purchased her own copy and her computer is crashing big time. I believe we are both going to un-install and buy a different program for anti-virus. Not sure if we can return for a refund or not, but will try. Since I can't get to Amazon's customer service page now, I am searching for a phone number to get help. Anyone have this number?
Also... about the rebate: in one place it says that the $25 rebate is for owners of previous Kaspersky anti-virus program (that would be me) and on the PDF that I am to print out and send with proof of purchase, etc., it says something quite different.
"Cut out and tape the original UPC barcode from the product packaging to this form. Photocopies will not be accepted. You must provide proof of previous ownership by enclosing ONE of the following in order to qualify for the rebate: Page 1 from a competitor's anti-virus manual or a photocopy of a competitor's anti-virus install disk (Third party merchants excluded)."
I have emailed Kaspersky for help and had no reply in three days.

Customer Review: Rec'd in time, thanks Summary: 3 StarsRec'd in time, thanks. Not sure if the product is compatible with Acrobat 7 I have, because each time I opened acrobat, though I created a "allow" rule, it reminds me of creating a rule for it again and again. I need to do more research on it.
Customer Review: Renewing is a PAIN Summary: 1 StarsI had the 6.0 version and loved it, my computer ran great with it.
But when it expired May 2008, I click "Renew your license" on the kaspersky screen, and it had me upload the 7.0 version which I wanted, but then it said pay $80 to renew the key to activate the new 7.0 version.
I only paid $50 for the 6.0 version and now they want me to pay $80 for the 7.0 which I said no to. Because I can buy the 7.0 CD for $44 from Amazon which is cheaper then renewing the key with kaspersky online for $80. But now every year I have to order a new disc when the license expires is CRAZY!! Talk about wasting paper & plastic
Kaspersky should give you a discount for renewing your license/key online every year, or at lesat make it the same price as buying the cd and not force you to pay more!! There renewing process is terriable. When this license expires (2009)I am going to look into using a different company or hopefully they read reviews and change their renewing process.

Customer Review: Nightmare Upgrade Summary: 1 StarsI used the Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 product for one year and it worked well - no issues and I'd give it 5 stars. This product maintained a good balance between security and system performance, as well as providing good feedback and control mechanisms one would expect from a mature antivirus program. I have used several antivirus products from Semantic, McAfee, and Trend Micro -- all on this same PC over the past 5 years and the Kaspersky 6.0 AntiVirus product was a clear winner from all of those products.
However, my problems with the Kaspersky Anti-Virus product started when I tried to renew my license after it expired. Following Kaspersky's license renewal/upgrade instructions on their website left me with a more expensive version of their product line (Internet Security) and removed all of my existing licensing information so I could not 'upgrade' and had to purchase a new license instead.
The renewal instructions suggest upgrading to their 7.0 product (for free), but this requires uninstalling the 6.0 version. An uninstall feature found in the 6.0 product was supposed to maintain my purchased license information so I could easily upgrade to the new version. This feature does not work and will erase all license information during the uninstall.
When I proceeded to install the 7.0 AntiVirus product, the link from the renewal website installed a more expensive version of the Internet Security product instead. I verified this explict link downloads the wrong version of the software and I pointed this out to the company.
So now I had a more expensive product on my computer and no proof of purchase from my 6.0 product. The next step Kaspersky recommends in this situation (after searching their website) is to email them to retain your license information. It took them over a week to respond and they asked for the original email receipt they sent when I purchased the product over a year ago. If I had this email receipt I wouldn't need to email them for the my license.
I can draw one of two conclusions from this poor upgrade experience: 1) Kaspersky is an incompetent company, 2) Kaspersky is a dishonest company and tries to force their customers into purchasing a much more expensive product. Either way, I no longer trust this company with protecting my computer.
About me: I'm a software engineer with 15+ years experience and I have created, used, purchased, renewed, installed and uninstalled countless software products.
