Software Reviews of Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0 [OLD VERSION]

Customer Review: Impressive Software
Summary: 5 Stars

This suite sports a great firewall and fabulous antivirus. It is good at catching things other antivirus software misses. I had Norton 2007 installed on one system I own and Kaspersky Antivirus installed on another. My machine with Norton on it started acting strangely--lots of pop ups, etc. Uh oh. I ran 4 different anti-malware products on it, and each caught at least 2 things that Norton missed, some of them caught *mulitple* items missed. And I am not talking cookies here. But still, my machine ran horribly. So, I uninstalled Norton 2007 and installed this product. It came up with 13 trojans Norton had missed. 13! My machine with Kasperksy on it is clean--no scanner can find anything and my other machine has never missed a beat or ended up costing my a bundle because of the mess trojans made of things. I honestly cannot recommend Kaspersky enough over Norton, whether the suite or the stand-alone antivirus. Kaspersky was not able to fix the damage done by the host of trojans let on the machine, but the machine running Kaspersky was safe.

A Kaspersky annoyance is their spam filtering. It is admittedly next to useless, so I disabled it. However, I like what the rest of the suite does.

Customer Review: Try the trial first before you buy
Summary: 1 Stars

After reading rave reviews here I decided to remove bit defender and install a trial version of Kaspersky Security Suite. Here's my experience after 3 days on both my notebook and personal computer.

PRO:

Antivirus: enough said, this will beat Norton and McAfee hands down.

CON:

Antihack: Very frustrating in "traning mode." It constantly pops up asking if I want to block or allow the activities. I am using Yahoo IM and in one evening chat session, I have to click "allow" like 100s times.

The worst thing is after I block a certain activity, there's no way to go back and find out where to unblock it. Ok, if you are computer expert, I think you will figure out a way to unblock it. I've gone through help file, searched google, and forums for answers and still could not find the solutions. Tech support in the forums didn't show how to unblock, only suggested to update windows or remove/reinstall the application again to see if it works. That's too much work for an average user. I had to turn off protection in order to use the application I want, which defeats the purpose of real time protection.

Bootup scans: I have quite a number of applications running at start up, and the bootup scan feature is slow that I have to walk away to do something after I logged in. On my notebook it is not as slow because I do not have many applications running.

Others: It also causes both my notebook and pc to crash a lot even aftering I disabled the protection. After uninstalling the product, my notebook resumes normal operations but my pc is still crashing here and there. I had to reformat my pc.

So try before you buy, and do not forget to create an image of your pc in case you have to reload it.

Over all, I would recommend Bit Defender or Nod32 over this product. They are all top tier virus protections. One strong feature of Bit Defender out of the box is it has predefined sets of rules for many popular applications so we don't have to go nuts like the "training mode" in Kaspersky product.

Customer Review: Bought it for the good engine...
Summary: 3 Stars

I've been using this product for about a month. I don't disagree that Kaspersky has an excellent virus scanning engine and does it's job well, but is the user interface miserable. It seems to be written by microsoftian overlords: the buttons and check boxes suggest that you have control over the various functions, but there is no ability to turn them off or control them. Everything is some sort of security violation, when I launch a new mail in outlook, (granted I have a older version), it's a security violation (yes I know it's just the training mode, I'm not an idiot.) And there is no easy way to dismiss the dialog, you have to accept, accept, accept, it's like that !@#! robbie the robot, warning. Warning. Warning. Yeah so some .dll is trying to do xyz. Allow or Deny? Uhhh... I suppose I could set the firewall to allow all traffic; I really thought the whole point of an firewall was the *it* would figure out what the bad packets were. Kaspersky is not a bad product, it just amazingly annoying and counterproductive to getting stuff done.

Customer Review: Not the cheepest, just the best
Summary: 5 Stars

Having tried Norton, McAfee, and some other spam blockers I came back for more of KAS when my last 2-year subscription recently expired. In Internet Security 6.0, they added an anti-hacker tool that was not in the last version of the program, which now eliminates the need to run separate software for key loggers and cookies. Just one note: After installation, which is seamless, go to their website and download the latest version release of the program, to avoid any hiccups. Runs in the background, doesn't use a lot of resources, and so far, in 3 years of using their products, no problems, which alone is worth the price.

Customer Review: Great product, great service
Summary: 5 Stars

Working great on my new computer. Very user friendly; easy to install and work with. Good response times on the internet. Updates frequently, automatically, and invisibly. No more popup windows telling me I need to update. Initially I had a problem because I did not download all the updates. Worked with Kaspersky by email. Nice people to work with. Intelligent, understandable, polite, responsive, quick. Norton look out!
