Software Reviews of JumpStart World 2nd Grade

Customer Review: Be prepared to spend a LOT more money
Summary: 1 Stars

This product allows the child to only access a very small percentage of what displays in the game as being available. For about 80% of it, when they click to do that part of the game, it gives them a message that their parents need to become members for them to have access to the additional games. Membership is $7.99 per month or $149 one time fee! I don't recommend this at all, because I think it is bait and switch. My daughter is extremely upset because we cannot buy the membership, so she can't play most of the game. She has really enjoyed the parts available to her, but the company should make it CLEAR on the packaging that a membership subscription for an additional fee is required in order to access most of the game.

Customer Review: A Great Tool
Summary: 5 Stars

This was a fantastic way for our daughter to keep up her academic skills over the summer. Jump Start is a rewarding and challenging game. At the beginning of the school year, she was nervous about 2nd grade being too hard, but she didn't have to worry a bit: she has accelerated in both math and reading. Jump Start played a vital role in her academic success! She continues to play it during her free time, and has acquired quite a few cute pets and accessories galore!

Customer Review: Loved but expensive
Summary: 3 Stars

My daughter is between 1st and 2nd grade, and this game has been keeping her motivated to learn through the summer.
She has had Jumpstart World Kindergarten and 1st grade in the past and has loved these games.
There is enough virtual play to keep it interesting and fun, yet enough math/reading exercises to actually learn.
Usually the first 5-6 levels are easy enough to let her play without help. The last levels provide some challenges, and sometimes may require some help from an older sibling or parent. As an example, on level 3: the games will test her on counting money, tallying, addition and subtraction of 3 digit +/- 1 digit numbers or +/- simple 2 digit numbers (10,20,30,etc.), organizing dates/months/calendars, asking questions about a simple story, phonics, etc.
We usually let her play about 30-45min max/day during the summer and only on weekends during the school year, and (based on her prior versions) she will probably finish all the levels within about 3-5 months.
If we could have all of the above for less than $40 the game would get 5 stars.
BUT for all the levels, this game is essentially $90-100.
ALSO you need a decent processor and RAM with a good broadband connection (we have a 1.73gHz processor+ 2MB RAM + 6MB/sec DSL wireless connection and it works fine, but occassionally the graphics can get a bit choppy.

Customer Review: Piece of junk
Summary: 1 Stars

I installed this piece of crap on my HP machine. After installing when the kids try to run this from their non admin account this won't even start. Errors out with 'Error setting up channels'. So this crap requie admin privliege to pry on your accounts!?! And the contact # published on the inset paper was disconnected and the number on their website goes to a dead end voicemail. No replies for my emails even after 48 hours. I also would strongly agree with other people's comment about the online (not just online but a broadband online) scam! Never buy this product and I would even say never buy anyother product from such a seller even if that product is really good!

Customer Review: guilt-free weekday computer game
Summary: 4 Stars

My kids love this. My son is in 2nd grade and immediately got addicted to the games. I also like the reports that Jump Start sends to tell me what he worked on. That service is new. I have used J.S. software for a long time and have found it good but not great. Anything that gets my kids having fun learning is a winner. My 6th grade daughter also likes the games and plays them for fun. She likes how you can unlock new things to do during the game as well as earn "gems" to decorate your cabin similar to the Nintendo games she likes. I'm going to look for new J.S. games for her level.
