I really used to like Nero6, but I am Czech, and it had major troubles with Czech special symbols. (One always tries to stay away from those, but it is not always possible.) I made a switch to Nero8, and I was just disappointed.

While installing the program was a sort of nightmare, uninstalling is nearly impossible. It leaves traces untill you reinstal the whole computer.

The thing I dislike the most was its extremely slow speed. It took about 25 minutes regularly to create an audio CD. It might be that I have all my files on network drive (althought with 1G connection). Nevertheless, other programs were several times quicker, from which one of the quickest is the old fashioned Nero6.

I was forced to find some freeware solution. Not because they are free, but because they work better. You can choose which one you like the best according to your needs... InfraRecorder, Ashampoo Burning, Express Burn, CDXPBurner...

Nero 8 sucks. One example is the extremely poor HELP policy. When you hit the help button you get a message saying Dear User, in order to keep file sizes small, you'll have to go online and download the help file. When you do that, a zip file downloads that you then have to unpack. The file does not link into the existing Nero program, and must be opened separately. Every part of the Nero package has its own help file that works this way. The worst part is that the help files are not at all helpful. They don't really add any information. It's a total waste of time to look at these extremely brief and unexplanatory help pages. You literally mouse yourself to death trying to figure out how Nero works. Don't buy their product. I really wish I had bought something else.

Thought I would put my two cents in. I have used Nero and Roxio editing products for years. Currently use version 10 for Roxio and version 8 for Nero. This review is about Nero. Like most of the people who bad mouthed Nero it DOES have it faults. It is not a program for NOVICE users. Also, when installing you DON'T have to select all the features IF you are not !!!! going to use them or DON'T know what they do. It DOES come with a manual. And like one reviewer said NERO will hi-jack files on the drive.
There are some TOY programs out there that do a DECENT job but may or may not deliver on important or complex projects. I can't give NERO 5 stars because it is not user friendly but it will get the job done when it comes down to crunch time !!! To wrap this up... one of my computers is a Digital Audio Workstation which is used to edit and produce various music and video file formats. Unfortunately Nero is the ONLY program that will work on some of these formats. So if you got it... KEEP IT !
My final suggestion is to uninstall Nero when you don't need it. Great program ( Like Roxio 10 ) for the professional users.. not so great for
others. Enjoy !
