Software Reviews of Nero 9Customer Review: Persistence pays off Summary: 3 StarsLike many of the other reviewers, I had nothing but problems from the outset. The initial installation was a nightmare, taking over an hour and constantly giving me error messages along the way. When this irritation was finally over, I settled in to use the program only to find that several of the applications didn't work at all and would simply close Nero altogether. Realizing that contacting Nero support would be futile, I uninstalled and reinstalled the suite numerous times, all with the same result.
Then I happened upon a very helpful review on these pages which suggested uninstalling it with Nero's Clean Tool (which eventually did work) and reinstalling directly from Nero's website. Unlike the previous installs, that whole process took about 5 minutes and gave me no error messages. I then input my serial number from the CD and lo and behold, it works!
I'm pleased with the product although in no way do I see it as an improvement over Nero 6, 7 or 8 which I used for years. Since it now performs as intended and does what I want it to do, I think it rates 3 stars.
Customer Review: Do NOT install Nero 9!!! Summary: 1 StarsNero 9 changes all your file associations to Nero without asking or giving you an option to choose. This is disaster, especially if you use other photo or sound editing applications. I have used previous versions of this software for years and liked it very much. Do not install this software without doing a complete image of your system partition so you can revert. I can't imagine why they did this; soon nobody will touch this software even if they give it away for free.
Customer Review: A Nightmare Install..... Summary: 1 StarsYes, it's true what they say about Nero. I have used version 8.0 with great success but was afraid of Nero 9. But I gulped, plopped down my $$$ and sent for this newest version. Yes, it does everything it advertises, but download and configuration were nightmares. It loaded slowly but evenly in about an hour...and would not launch. So I attempted to uninstalled it through the Control Panel, which would not work. I manhandled the files by finding as many "Nero" sounding ones as I could delete and tried to re-install again. No go. You have 10-15 days free tech support after purchase and my advice from them was to get the "Clean Tool" directly from Nero to erase all versions (this worked). I then was told to download the newest version "from their web site" (not the disk provided) as there were some "problems with the disks." I downloaded the trial version from Nero, inserted my own, purchased Serial Number instead of the temporary one, and finally got the thing running on my PC. With initial tries, phone tech support and final installs, probably 6-8 hours of work.
Now that it is install, it does work well and does the DVD burning very well. But is it worth the hassle of this initial horror? You'll have to decide for yourself.
Customer Review: Good, But always to much Summary: 4 StarsFirst, good burning software, I had Nero 6 for Windows XP. Just got Vista and had to upgrade so I decided on this. I'm happy with it, have had zero issues and would recommend it. Now, Second. This software comes with way to many programs, the only thing I installed of this disc was the Nero Burning ROM program. THAT'S IT. I'm sick and tired of all this software that try to do everything. These other programs suck at what they do and I hate it. I want to burn discs I'll buy disc burning software. I want to edit Photos I'll buy Photo editing software. I don't even know what Nero is anymore. Maybe they want to be a operating system. I do like at least I can customize the install so I can only pick the Burning ROM software. Don't get me wrong, I like this product, highly recommend this product. I just wish they would make a cheaper version that just has the burning software on it for people like me. That's the only reason for 4 stars instead of 5.
Customer Review: Nero 9 Summary: 5 StarsI've used Nero for years in my studio to make awesome music CD's and DVD's. Nero 9 is best of them yet. I really love this program.
