Software Reviews of Parallels Desktop 4.0 for Mac [OLD VERSION]

Customer Review: A project manager's best friend
Summary: 5 Stars

I am a project manager at a leading architectural firm. And the key to great drafting are the tools you use. That's why I prefer my Mac Pro --- it redefines what a 'workhorse' should be. Even with Windows Vista, Autocad, Excel and 20 open emails, my computer handles my every request with ease.

Meanwhile, the creative side of me has full access to Photoshop which happens to be running simultaneously on the Mac OS. Thanks Parallels!

Customer Review: Saves me time and debugging
Summary: 5 Stars

Parallels Desktop saves me time and debugging effort over using VMWare to simulate some windows programming. I have envcountered a few problems using VM Ware and worked around them after spending time to debug the problem with help from other programmers and not encountered the same type of problems within Parallels Desktop. Worth the money to me.

I had VMWare Fusion on all the Macs in my dermatology clinic...and it worked good...some limitations. Our biller had Parallels on hers and liked it so we switched. Parallels is noticeably faster and just 'looks' better. We couldn't however open PDF files that we were trying to access on a remote server we dialed in to. Fusion could (we have one computer that still has Fusion on it and we have to use that for this procedure). Purchased a support call for $36...and then the fun started. Called...you get the level 1 person who really doesn't know anything about actual programming or functionality...they're just following a typed-up sheet. If they can't handle it and you have to call back...you'll spend 10" going through the phone tree...then get a message that your ticket number's been closed. That happened twice with us. THEN try calling the number in Seattle. You WILL NOT be able to get a human. Go back to the toll-free number...and the nice recorded voice tells you you're ticket's closed...then hangs up on you. I hope I'm able to convey how frustrating it was as a small-business owner/physician to spend literally a few hours "pressing 1 now" or trying different punched-in number combos to get a human to pick up.

Adding, 10.26.09: Parallels and Windows XP refuses to recognize and utilize our Kyocera KM C3225 office networked printer. It also refuses to print to the Dymo Labelwriter 450 Turbos I just got. Still...the ONE computer left in the office that runs Fusion...is the only one that has these functions.

I'm now doing Erase and Installs on all my brand new iMacs and downloading Fusion's new version tomorrow. Parallels (and Windows) has made the last 3 wks of my life miserable.

Customer Review: Excellent product!
Summary: 5 Stars

My son used this to get Windows on his Mac, and it works like a charm. Amazing!

Customer Review: Excellent virtualization system for beginners
Summary: 5 Stars

I recently started using a MacBook Pro for some new projects that I am working on. I haven't been a Mac user since college and so I am a little rusty. There were some windows applications that I could not give up.

I have not used previous versions of Parallels, but the installation is very easy and quick. Once the software was installed with some simple configurations I was ready to go. I did run into 1 issue with SP1 for Exchange, but was able to solve it pretty quickly through their support forum. Before installing I assumed it would slow down my machine considerably. But it really doesnt slow anything down. I can switch between the two environments (while running apps in both) without any pause. Overall, pretty sweet tool set.

After using it for a day, it really stopped seeming like 2 different operating systems and more like 1 powerful OS.
