Customer Review: Be a Scrapper....On Your Computer

Scrapbooking Can Be Fun... You Can Do It On Your Computer.
Nova Development's latest version of scrapbooking software is a good place to start, for someone who wants to dabble in electronic scrapbooking. To keep this program from using up more hard drive space, I've downloaded it to the external drive where I will also store my completed projects. The hint I can offer you for storing your completed projects is shown in the following title that describes your "save": 2009-05-30 Grandma 88th Birthday. Be sure to read the other reviews; some give specific hints for navigating through the intricacies of this software program.
Like most similar software, you can use the photos and details from your latest family event and create a project to save the memories, a project that can be re-visited over and over again by family and children. Most of the completed projects are photorealistic, yet non-dimensional, that means, that the finished projects are printed on paper, without any actual ribbons, stars, decorative items, and word text boxes. It's just another variation on creating a scrapbook page, an announcement, a birthday greeting, or an iron-on design for your T-shirt. Try it; you are learning a skill more than anything. Launch your creativity and enjoy the finished products. Be a Scrapper!

I was excited to get this software and try it out, especially after so many positive reviews, but was left disappointed.
The program is unwieldy to use. You're constantly clicking to get to the right menu, item, etc. On top of that, the search function for finding certain graphics is pretty poor. The *easiest* way to even begin a search is to drag a default element into the frame, the right click for "replace graphic," then click on "search," then enter your item. There's no default "search" button on the actual sidebar of accents. I would think this would be a pretty basic thing to include instead of having to go searching for the search!
Even when you get to the search feature, it's pretty poorly implemented. For example, if you wanted to a layout for your cat and searched "cat," you'll get some returns, but only the ones that specifically have "cat" in the title of the graphic. Searching for "kitty" returns more items, but again, only those with the word kitty in the title. Searches are based on title only, not on theme. Not too bad for a cat page, but if you want to do a holiday page? You have to search for "Christmas," "holiday," "ornament," "gingerbread," "star".... the list goes on and on. Searching for "military" returns *nothing*... yet they have pre-made military themes available. It's just rediculous.
The pre-set themes are the only thing his software has going for it. If you only want already made pages that you drag your photos into without altering them at all, then it might be worth it to you. But don't get this software if you have ambitions to be creative with it.
Also beware - the box says 90 day money back guarantee for any reason if you're not satisfied, but there's no listing for returns on their website and calling the customer service number only refers you to *another* number you have to call at which there is no answer - no voicemail, no recording, nothing - just no answer.

I bought this product because it has nice looking embellishments not just clip art. Most products out there require you to buy every embellishment separately. I like that this product has a lot of papers, embellishments, ribbons, etc. right out of the box. The templates aren't great, but they do work as a starting place to create your own designs. You get the most for your money with this product. Scrapbook Factory Deluxe is an okay product but I don't feel like it's great. The graphics are really beautiful and print out really nice. I was impressed with the variety of choices of layouts for pages. The program is not all that easy to manuver through however. It took me several times of playing with it before I figured out how to find the different menus.
I don't think the program works very well for a digital scrapbook. It's mainly for printing out pages to place into a scrapbook. I was a little disappointed with that as I would like to have created a digital scrapbook as well.
I also found if I used preset designs it was hard to change them even a little bit so they could be personalized. One example would be that I was trying to change the alphabet letters to spell my son's name instead of the default name for that page design. I had a hard time finding the exact graphic used and matching up the exact size for each letter was a challenge.
I really like the calendar page feature. I'm hoping to complete a year calendar for gifts this year. I found after choosing preset designs it was really easy to add my own pictures and print. The months I have completed turned out really nice, and each looks professionally created.
Over all the program is not as user friendly as I had anticipated. I'm hoping with some practice I will get better at some of the customizing.

First, let me say, when I opened the Scrapbook Factory Deluxe, the size of the manual impressed me. So many times, you buy software and the manual is either itty bitty or it's all on a CD which I can't stand. (although, it comes with a CD too!)
I LOVE having the book. There is even a section on tips assist you in being even more creative.....Very easy to use and everything looks so professionally done. There are tons of backgrounds to choose from and even craft project templates. The switch plate covers are adorable.
