Software Reviews of Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10 Preferred - Medium BoxCustomer Review: Protected themselves out of usefulness Summary: 1 StarsBought DNS 10 in March - trained it and trained it - useful if you get your hands blown off but not otherwise. Got a new laptop which supported faster CPU August 2009 - copied over to new machine and reformatted old drive -- every other (application) program from MS, Adobe, MatLab, EndNote, SPSS Everything worked EXCEPT - you guessed it DNS 10 - "a serious error occurred"...the rest of the sentence should be..."when you had a weak moment and purchased this product." I have alpha and beta tested other speech recognition engines have a very good voice for this and it doesn't work for me. Engineering professor here - save your money - wait a decade 'til your carpal tunnel is worse before you waste money on this product. Tried the 10.1 update - no joy.

Customer Review: A fix for Installing. Summary: 4 Stars****** IMPORTANT **************
The issue that everyone below is having is due to the fact that Dragon 10 does not work in Vista 64bit. They have since released 10.1 which will work, but this is not that product. So even though it says Vista...its only for 32bit systems.
So how do you know if you have 32 or 64bit Vista. Click on your start button, then right click on the "Computer" tab on the right of the popup menu, then select "Properties" at the bottom of that menu. Second section down in "System" look next to "System Type" if it says 64bit. This product will not work.
BUT WAIT. Here is an FYI. Window Vista, comes with a very powerful Speech recognition (SR) application built into it. You might want to look into just enableing the windows SR app instead of plunkin down a 100-150 with Dragon.
Hope this helps save you some trouble.
Customer Review: Works wonders Summary: 5 StarsI just upgraded from 9 preferred to 10 preferred. The only problem I encountered was on installation. My new laptop is 64 bit version. You can easily download from customer support for compatible version. This does take time, approximately 90 minutes. Once it is downloaded, it is easy to install as well as copy CD for future use or to install in any other computer you have.
It just works very well. I am not a native English speaker and some of the words I had to train. Overall this is an excellent product but the way it is marketed and supported by the company could be improved. WE SHOULD LEARN FROM TOYOTA,LEXUS AND OTHER OVERSEAS COMPANIES ABOUT CUSTOMER SERVICE.
However I would not discourage anyone from buying this product.
Customer Review: New user Summary: 5 StarsI just finished installing NaturallySpeaking 10 Preferred and going through the tutorial. I am very happy with how it works and look forward to using it.
I tried to start the software after the install finished, but I got an error from the C++ runtime. Everything seems to work fine once I had to reboot my PC.
Turns out a headset came with the software so I didn't need to buy one. It isn't fancy, but the microphone works well.
As a first time user, I did have to train the software. Short scripts were provided that I read. It didn't take long.
The one gotcha was the check box requesting a quick start setup. When I read the brochure, it recommended that first time users not use that option. Oh well. :-)
Best regards,
Peggy
