Software Reviews of Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10 Standard

Customer Review: Love it!
Summary: 5 Stars

Great product! I had no issues installing it or learning to use it. Overall this product has been an amazing life saver for my current job! I would recommend it to anyone. I will say, however, I did read all the reviews carefully and made sure my computer met all the requirements before buying it. I think that is why I had no issues with it, and would recommend you do the same!

Customer Review: Not recommended for quiet-types (introverted personality)
Summary: 2 Stars

I have an introverted personality and learned within one hour of using Dragon that this product is not for me. It seems obvious in hindsight, but after over a decade of typing on computers (and, of course, my whole life writing) with only my thoughts providing the words I type, trying to 'talk' my way through emails and documents felt so unnatural I literally yanked the headset off in frustration. I am not sure why, but thinking and then typing (or writing) works wonderfully well for me. However, thinking and then talking out my typing just seems to cause a mental traffic jam. It is like I already have my brain wired as 'think then type' and not 'think then talk the type.' It might seem like a small distinction, but it was a huge difference for me. I suspect another brain pathway must be exercised to include the speech in the process and it was actually a detriment for me. And sure enough, I know my words-per-minute was less than my 35 or so when I hunt and peck. Perhaps with a lot of practice (probably tens of hours) I could get better, but I don't see an actual need for this software and will not bother (my curiosity and the idea of getting stuff done faster is why I purchased, but I see now that my typing speed isn't the issue as I actually type pretty much at the pace I am formulating words).

To be fair, the software itself seemed fine and understood me well enough (general accent, US), although it did have a few mistakes here and there (which then compounded my frustration as I had to again 'talk' my way through corrections instead of just using the mouse and keyboard, which, by the way, are actually highly efficient devices and no speaking software will likely usurp them...ever). And another thing is that I like to listen to music while I type, but that obviously will not work with speaking software that has a microphone on all the time.

On the other hand, however, many people are extraverted and are naturally good at 'talking' their thoughts out. So, I suspect such talker-type individuals would probably like this product better as their brains are better wired for it. But if you are like me (consider if your typing speed is actually a bottle-neck to your work), then I suggest you pass on this technology.

Customer Review: Dragon Naturally speaking
Summary: 2 Stars

I bought this product a week ago and are still trying to get it to work right. Eight hours of reading text, downloading papers and letting the software scan all my college papers on my jump drive resulted in the system recoqnizing fifty two additional words out of thousands in that file. I am going to get the update for windows Vista and see if that helps but the only reason I am not really upset is because I got this product at eightyfive percent off and still belive I paid too much.

Customer Review: Great Price on Amazon
Summary: 5 Stars

Although "basic", this is the best one for someone just starting with voice recognition (even includes headset) to find out if they can deal with the editing required of even the highest level software. Word capture is very good, easy to start; but remember that even with 95+% accuracy you are still editing a good part of your documents (which will be spelled perfectly with no typos).

Customer Review: DNS CAN'T BE USED ON VISTA
Summary: 1 Stars

I tried to load DNS on windows vista on a quad core 2.4 GZ machine. It would not load since I didn't have C++ installed. I made several attemps to contact Nuance. They are horrible as far as assistance is concerned.
