I would recommend that you DON NOT PURCHASE this software. Unfortunately, the software industry appears to consider users test rats and fools. I believe that this product betrays the lack of testing that is so common in the software industry.
Note that my system meets ALL stated requirements: 32 bit VIsta, DVD, dual core intel, 3 GIG ram etc
Firstly, it appears to be extremely intrusive in that in addition to the usual product activation code Nuance appears to want continuous access to your system;
the nightmare really began at installation when Error Code 1722 apppears- the installation abruptly stops at the end of the installation process and rolls back the install.
Note the the "solution"- disable Data Execution Prevent - bu Nuance is( may be?) completely useless - at least this was the case on my pc. ( is this not also dangerous since this a microsoft provided program designed to prevent viruses?)
Apparently , this is a known issue and the web appears full of esoteric instructions which may or may not work- however I am not a software engineer so I would not know. This is totally unfair and unacceptable.
Given the buggy nature of this product it should be retailed- if at all- with a 5 day no charge download with the consumer paying for activation after or if it workks. The excuse of the included headphones is no excuse not to use this retail model.
many of us who purchase this software do so because of various pains or disabilities when using the keyboard. Nuance has obviously taken advantage of this -economists talk about inelastic demand.
Do not buy this unless you absolutely have !!!!

This was not too bad, but I bought a MacPro this week and can not use any longer. I will pass it along to my daughter, who has just started college. I am more impatient than the average person and you cannot be impatient when setting up the program. Make sure you take the tutorials and set your voice commands up without any background noises. Worth the money, if you type slow like I do. LOL

I started out with Dragon Naturally Speaking 6. I have not used it as much as I'm using it now because it wasn't as good as it is now.
With a little practice, DNS 10 works almost as well as a Secretary taking dictation. The more you use it, the better it becomes. You become better too. When you see what mistakes it continues to make, you adjust your speaking and it adjusts itself to better understand you.
It is one of those programs that I couldn't do without for my day to day work.

Years ago I bought an early version of Dragon Naturally Speaking. Although the technology was interesting, it wasn't good enough to use regularly. There were many mistakes and it took longer to correct a document that it would have taken just to type it using 2 fingers.
However, because of the glowing reviews of version 10, both here and in published comments, I decided to try it again. I've been using it for about 6 weeks.
IT NOW WORKS REMARKABLY WELL. The required training to recognize YOUR speech is relatively short and painless. Also, the software continues to refine recognition and accuracy as you use it.
USE A GOOD MICROPHONE
A reviewer for a headset & microphone mentioned how well it works with Dragon Naturally Speaking, ver. 10 -- that it's a great improvement over her older headset. On her advice along with other reviews, I ordered the headset from Amazon. They were right -- it works great with DNS and I've found it also works great with Skype and in video conferencing as well. Here's Amazon's listing: "Plantronics Foldable USB Stereo Headset (Optimized for Laptop Use) (Audio 470 USB)"
I strongly recommend both DNS and the Plantronics headset. Used together, they are well worth the price.
CAVEATS
I gave the DNS ver 10 four stars instead of five because: 1. Although it works surprisingly well, it still makes the occasional mistake (maybe one in two paragraphs), and 2. Using voice commands to go back and edit text is difficult, time-consuming and it's frustrating because it interrupts your train of thought. Editing is much faster and simpler using the keyboard.

After procrastinating about getting this product because some had said it was not user-friendly, I'm glad I finally purchased it! This product was very easy to install, and did not take long to set up. This has greatly improved my productivity in writing e-mails, website content, and articles. I'm even using it to write this review! I highly recommend Dragon NaturallySpeaking.
