Software Reviews of Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10 Standard

Customer Review: Be a computer DJ talk to your computer
Summary: 5 Stars

Be a computer DJ talk to your computer.

Dragon NaturallySpeaking is the third voice recognition software program I have tried. It works great! It works faster and corrects text easier than any other voice recognition software I have used.

Like all voice recognition software, Dragon does have some undocumented features.
These software secrets include the fact that the headset that comes with Dragon does not seem to be noise canceling.
Also, Dragon sometimes stops hearing the headset that comes with it and every other Windows application will hear from the headset but not Dragon.
So, you may be better off using buying another headset. Get used to using DragonPad a word processor that comes with Dragon. And then of course, just go ahead and copy and paste what you dictated from DragonPad to where you need it. Accuracy is much greater when you are using DragonPad than with any other application.

So go ahead, have fun speaking your homework or school work or anything else instead of typing and writing it.
You can even play the Howling Wolfman Jack and say things like get down with your Bad Self or get down and boogie and yes when your dictating to your computer computer you can even say booger. Yes, DJ's may have gotten fired in the past for saying that on the air but you can say booger to your computer! You can even dictate the lyrics to the old Puff the Magic Dragon song on your computer.

Because Dragon makes dictating to your computer so easy. It can at times be hard to figure out what speed you're dictating at.
I have been able to successfully time other documents and the first document that I typed out right out of training, came in at 29 words per minute and a second document came in at 30 words per minute. 30 words per minute is the bottom range of my typing speed, so this is satisfactory and a good start to voice recognition for me.
I figured this document also come in at 30 per minute. This is only the third document that I've finish with Dragon NaturallySpeaking!

UPDATE:

DAY 5:

Yesterday on Day 4 I got the speed of this up to 44 words per minute!
Star Wars Paraphrase: "I've Got A Good Feeling About This."

DAY 6: DRAGON DISCOVERY!

Discovered, that if you get tired of using DragonPad for everything and pasting your dictation into a document. You can make use of a feature called Dictation Box that will allow you to dictate into almost any application. Discovered this thanks to the tip of the day feature in Dragon that mentioned this and inspired me to look it up in their very informative help section! I am using the Dictation Box now to add this discovery to my review.

Customer Review: Dragon Naturally Speaking
Summary: 5 Stars

Purchased this for my wife to use on her Vista Ultimate laptop. It is a fantastic product and installed easilyDragon NaturallySpeaking 10 Standard. Once you initially train it, you simply speak and watch as your spoken word is typed on the screen. She has used it in Outlook 2007 and MSN Messenger with no problems. The more you train the better it becomes. A fantastic product!

Super. A real time saver for a self-employed lawyer who has had his fill of incompetent secretarial staff. Best price anywhere.

Customer Review: Don't believe the specs on this item!
Summary: 3 Stars

I can't tell you how it runs yet, so I'll have to update this review later. I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt at giving it a 3, at this point.

The problem? Simply put, the specs on the software are incorrect on the Nuance site. It says specifically that this program will run on 512 RAM with an additional 512 cache. When I tried to load it on my laplop, it refused, saying I don't have enough RAM. Specifically, I have 512 RAM with a 1 GIG cache, so the specs are wrong. When I took it to the desktop computer, knowing that that one was over 700 RAM and 1 GIG cache, it had no problem with the RAM but had a problem with the processor. According to the Nuance site, the software will work with a Pentium 4 or higher and AMD Athlon 64 1 GHz minimum. I have the latter specifically in my machine. I have set up for my husband to replace the processor with his old one (same type but nearly double the GHz as my old one). We'll see if it still refuses to work, and I'll update the review with news.

No matter what, this product will not get above a 3 from me, because the developers should know what the specs are and list them correctly.

Customer Review: Why is this better than the built in speech recognition on Vista and Windows 7?
Summary: 5 Stars

I read a lot of these reviews and have yet seen one mentioning that Vista and Windows 7 have built in voice recognition. Go to Accessories/Ease of use/ and there's the option ... Windows Speech Recognition. If you do an internet search for "WSR Macros", you will also find a free Microsoft update that allows for user defined voice macros.

How can anyone favorably review this product for Vista or Windows 7, without at least comparing it to what is already built into the operating system?
