Software Reviews of Dragon NaturallySpeaking 9 Standard [OLD VERSION]Customer Review: Dragon NaturallySpeaking 9 Standard maintains the standard Summary: 4 StarsI have used the previous versions of DNS and each one is improved over its predecessor. Training time is shorter and word recognition easier and more accurate. Though the software makes an occasional bizarre interpretation of word pronounciation, it is by and large accurate. The standard edition should suit most users. As a prof, I would give it an A- :-)
Customer Review: Going from version 8 to 9 Summary: 4 StarsI have been disappointed before when upgrading this product.
But this time I was very pleasantly surprised.
There was definitely a significant improvement to warrent the cost.
I did not give it 4 stars because it still has a little ways to go.
I have a soft and indistinct voice so it will tend to be less accurate than for others.
But even so--I am very happy with the results.
Customer Review: Really pleased Summary: 5 StarsI needed something to help me with a enormous amount of academic text that needed to be dictated. It was technical in nature with discipline-specific vocabulary. To be honest, I had doubts as to how to correct it would be, but was I ever pleased to see how more than adequate it was. After a relatively short intro period, the program "learned" my speaking patterns and consistently added the words it did not recognize. Now I can hardly read fast enough to get ahead of the program. This was a great purchase.
Customer Review: good product, horrible customer support Summary: 3 StarsThis software works quite well once it's fully trained. However, if anything goes wrong, you might as well give up. Their "help" function is pitiful. Online tech support (by phone or email) costs $10 a pop. The online knowledge base was no help. The user's guide's "troubleshooting" entry says to look under "tips" on the website, but there is nothing labeled "tips" on the website, so...
Mine was working fine for a couple of months, but somehow my settings have become completely messed up, and I can't find any way to restore them. When it's working correctly, this is a pretty impressive program, but if something goes wrong, be prepared for an astoundingly frustrating experience. I'm honestly not sure I've ever encountered such poor tech support.
An update: I installed the upgrade from their website, and it does seem to have fixed the problem. And I emailed their customer service (not tech support) complaining about everything mentioned above; they did at least respond, and apparently if you have the latest version, you get one free tech support consult - which they don't mention anaywhere on the website.
My advice - this is good software, but be very careful about changing settings.
Customer Review: Dragon Naturally Speaking Has Real Fire!! Summary: 5 StarsLook, all it takes to tame the Dragon is a little time in training yourself by going through the tutorials and investing some practice time. I just don't get the weird negative reviews on this product. It DOES WORK ON LAPTOPS USING WINDOWS VISTA!!! I mean unless you have a lot of junk on your computer already, or are just a complete moron, I don't see why anyone would have trouble using this software. It is a little slower while working in MS WORD, but all I do is work in DRAGON PAD, and cut and paste my text work into MS WORD. It cuts down my time BIG TIME!! IT WORKS, AND WORKS WELL!!! I don't know about the support from Nuance, but so far, I haven't had the need to even contact them. With a little time and effort, you can become a DRAGON MASTER!!
