Customer Review: PDF Converter Pro 5.0 - Excellent Product! Summary: 5 StarsI purcahsed this product as a replacement for an aging installation of Adobe Acrobat Professional 6.0 and have been more than satisfied with its capabilities and performance, especially in light of the $400 price differential. Highly recommended!!!
Customer Review: Nuance Slows CPU Summary: 1 StarsThe product performed well when I first purchased it. No problem with installation. About three months into using it, I started noticing my system slowing down. After inspecting Windows Task Manager (I'm running Vista), NuanceWDS.exe was using between 49-53% of the CPU, at boot it would spike at over 80%. The interesting thing is I am not using the program. This is occurring while the program is idle/not running. NuanceWDS.exe runs as a backround task regardless of whether you are running the program. Until there is a fix I would not buy this program. The Support on the WEBSITE is a check box (a fixture to say they have support, but it supplies little or no utility). If not for the fact that it slows my computer down to a crawl when I'm not using the program; I would say it's been great. As it is though, I do not recommend buying the software, frankly it's a tool to allow me to do work, and it creating more problems than it's solving.
Customer Review: My experience Summary: 5 StarsI normally don't write reviews - just read them. In this case I decided to because I am completely satisfied with the product. I have not had to contact support, however, and so have no input on that aspect and I got it for [...] when CompUSA was tubing. I will also say that I have PDF Converter Pro 4. I have been able to create complete and accurate pdf's from text/graphic material - scanned as jpg - sometimes e-mailed to me sometimes I create, from cad drawings, from internet pages, etc. If desired, I then have been able to convert to editable documents such as Word docs with 100% char. recognition with the rare exceptions being when the quality of the original doc is poor and even then the result has been way better than other OCR programs I have used. It converts a jpg or doc file to pdf in seconds. If you need to take some piece of printed/electronic work and make pdf's and/or editable docs or spreadsheets from them this one works very well for me.
Customer Review: Each version successively worse Summary: 1 StarsI have owned copies since version 2. Each successive version has worked worse in overall user experience, culminating with version 5 which doesn't boot at all after installation. Versions 2 & 3 were somewhat crude and not very compatible with Adobe. At least version 4, which had its own runtime problems, would create a PDF after patching it. Version 5's runcore8.dll module crashed on my XP machine no matter how we tried the installation or what we tried after consulting the knowledgebase. PDF creation shouldn't be this hard or this frustrating. Nuance has terrible customer service ($pay) and a poor knowledge base. This version of the product doesn't work. Do not buy version 5. Come to think of it, don't buy any version of this product.
