Customer Review: This Software's Benefits
Summary: 4 Stars

First, I noticed that many people hate this product, which surprised me somewhat because I find it so useful; however, after some reflection, I realize the problem. If I wanted a full-blown *.pdf editor and scanning package, I think PaperPort would largely be insufficient. The document editing capabilities are really quite limited (although you could probably use it to easily scan a *.pdf document). In addition, at one point, I had to splice out some pages from a rather large *.pdf document, and I must confess that it took me an hour to accomplish this task; with Adobe Acrobat, that same task would have taken me just a few minutes. On the other hand, PaperPort really excels at certain tasks in ways unlike other software. Most particularly, PaperPort is especially good at organizing large number of files in a rather convenient way. I'm an academic, and I regularly read large batches of *.pdf files. With PaperPort, I can stick them in a folder, move them about to emphasize their importance, and so forth. It's been an amazing product for keeping me organized. As such, I think the problem is that the product might not have been effectively advertised--or, perhaps, the previous reviewers were not able to figure out how to maximize this program's potential.

In other words, if you want a piece of software that will help you organize massive amounts of *.pdf documents, I think PaperPort might be the best program on the market. On the other hand, if you want a comprehensive piece of *.pdf editing and scanning software, you are probably better off going with a different product, like the latest version of Adobe Acrobat.

I can't really discuss the support. Personally, I just stuck in the CD and installed the product; I must confess that I've never had a problem getting it to work.

Customer Review: Worst of the worst for product and customer support
Summary: 1 Stars

My dissatisfaction started with my purchase of Paperport 11 which was offered at $150 with a $[...] rebate. First the rebate was refused 2 months later allegedly because I did not send in the UPC code. I had stuck the upc code actually onto the rebate form and made copies of everything I had submitted. I showed everything to Frys Electronics CS where I had bought it and they agreed to take the matter up with Nuance. I don't think they got a response but a couple of months later I received the $50 back from Frys.
At that point I installed the software. I had been using version 9, but
that would not work in Vista. I had problems with Windows crashing and reinstalled it but Nuance would not permit it to run as they denied an activation even though I reinstalled it on the same computer which had crashed. I had not even changed out the memory or hard drive, but if they were bad I would have. I have written Nuance asking for a refund but in view of my "rebate" experience doubt I will get a reply but intend taking this further. They have tried screwing me twice on the same product. Obviously I will never ever buy software that bears the Nuance name again. Avoid being ripped off like me and read the reviews before buying software. That was my mistake in this case. I had to give this a minimum of one star as aprt of the review process, but if I had a choice I would give it zero as if a product does not install and the company has no customer support in resolving the issue then no matter it's content, the product is totally useless.

Customer Review: Hesitant at first, but ended up ordering and loving it
Summary: 4 Stars

At first, I was hesitant to buy the upgrade from PaperPort 9 Deluxe to PaperPort 11 Professional, especially since the price was so much higher. Also, many of the reviews out there were/are so negative. Thus, I began to search for another solution.

However, I decided to attempt the "clean" install on Windows Vista (per some random posts out there on disabling all non-Microsoft services and start up apps before attempting to install), and was able to install w/o a problem. Granted I'm using the newest version that is supposed to be Vista compliant. I'm sure the previous reviewers were using an older build.

My intent with my review is mainly to shed a little light for anyone else who is contemplating the upgrade/purchase. It was smooth and uneventful install for me. The new features are great, and I've not had any issues I can see with my MAX files either.

I had to rate 4 stars for my review as I had to take into account the fact that I am a pretty tech savvy person, and I did my homework before purchasing, or I would have given 5.
