Linux-Mandrake has always satisfied me, and this version/distribution is even better than the old(er)/other ones. The automated installation process is a cinch; you don't even need to know anything about linux/unix to get it running somewhat decent, and when you do learn and get used to linux (and it's expert installation/configuration), you can re-install it for even better performance and flexibility. There're a lot of good applications that come with this distribution if you're using it as a workstation; although I'd recommend the "normal" (complete) version of Mandrake instead if you're using it as a server OS only, because you'll save yourself a bit of money. This package includes the Linux-Mandrake operating system, as well as a number of extra utilities and applications, including:- Software to connect Linux to the Web, including Netscape Communicator 4.75 (with Plug-in Flash4), Konqueror, KMail, RealPlayer, Everybuddy (AOL, ICQ, Yahoo, and MSN compatible), DrakNet (a new Internet-connection assistant that supports dial-up modems, DSL, ISDN, and cable), and DrakGateway, an Internet connection-sharing assistant.
- The development tools C, C++, Perl, Python, Java, Qt Designer, and Glade.
- The Web-development tools Apache 1.3.12, PHP 4.02, and Perl - CGI - PHPNuke.
- Hardware support includes new drivers for i810, GeForce, GeForce II, and many others.
- The latest KDE2 (including KOffice) and the latest version of GNOME 1.2.
