Software Reviews of Pinnacle Studio Ultimate Version 12 [OLD VERSION]

Customer Review: I Absolutely love this Program, alot of Pro Features and Less Crashing.
Summary: 5 Stars

Pinnacle Studio Ultimate 12 is where its at if you wanna chop, cut paste. Add Effects and other stuff you can find in Apple's final cut. I first started out trying to use Sony Studio and Adobe Premiere but they were a Royal Pain! BUT then came Pinnacle Studio to the rescue.

Not only did it make me feel comfortable with Editing video for my film company but when some people see my videos and effects they ask "Wow!! What program is that?" and I love it.

Trust me update your computer and get this program you will love it.

Customer Review: JUNK!
Summary: 1 Stars

I have tried to use this product off and on for almost a year. It advertises wonderful, user-friendly benefits. Unfortunately many basic proceedures simply don't work for me. For example, capturing HDV doesn't work. The video is separated from the audio files in separate folders. Rendering HD clips results in sound which is 1 or 2 seconds out of sync with the video. Numerous calls and on-line chats with "tech support" have been to no avail.

My biggest complaint is that this is not a user, consumer friendly product and that tech support is, for all practical purposes, non-existent.

Carefully review other video editing programs before wasting your hard-earned money on this one.

Customer Review: Too complex and crash-happy for the average user
Summary: 3 Stars

I've been hesitant to review this product for a couple of reasons. I haven't used it all that much because I find some of the other video editing software I own to be more user-friendly, and I almost feel as if an amateur video hack like myself isn't qualified to review such sophisticated software as this. Pinnacle Studio Ultimate Version 12 was designed to do some pretty impressive things, and I'm just a guy with a webcam and a little Flip camcorder who hasn't yet realized his dream of producing the next great low-budget amateur horror film; heck, I've only posted a couple of videos online over the past year.

So I fired up the program again tonight just to refresh my memory on its capabilities and ease of use, and guess what happened. As soon as I tried to capture a little video via my webcam, the whole program crashed with no explanation. I tried it again, and the same thing happened. My PC hardware is more than capable of supporting this program, so the fact that the capture process basically doesn't work for me has to result in a major point reduction in terms of my rating. As I wait for the program to restart once again, I can't help but notice the significant loading time - another point deduction. Pinnacle Studio Ultimate Version 12 is a real memory hog. That's not necessarily a criticism on my part, though; this powerful of a program is naturally going to require a decent amount of your system resources; on the other hand, who needs this kind of hassle when all you want to do is post a short video of your dog on YouTube?

So I go to choose an existing video for editing. Naturally, I want to scroll through a number of my available files to find the right one. Unfortunately, the software isn't as high on that idea as I am, as it commences to hose up the first time I choose to advance in my designated folder. It's enough to make me give up for a few minutes and wander over to Facebook. What if I just want to make a slideshow of various pictures? That's quick and easy - but doing something so simple in this program is sort of like taking an 18-wheeler down the block just to pick up groceries.

I can't complain about the extra features included with the actual product, though. Boris Graffiti is a great program for creating impressive title animations. Magic Bullet Looks gives you dozens and dozens of style choices to use for any given video. ProDAD VitaScene lets you add effectively subtle effects and transitions to your projects. Finally, it goes without saying that the inclusion of a green screen sheet is definitely a plus.

Based on my experience, Pinnacle Studio Ultimate Version 12 is just a little too buggy, non-intuitive, and crash-happy for the average person. If you're a hardcore video editor on a budget, though, I think this software is certainly worth a look. The ability to work with and produce high definition video is a feather in Pinnacle's hat, even though you'll probably need a pretty powerful computer and lots of patience to get things working the way you want.

Customer Review: Many FUN, slick features--FAST and doesn't crash (for me)
Summary: 5 Stars

For me, Adobe Premier 8 is still more intuitive and blends well with Photoshop Elements. The Organizer is great to work with but...

Pinnacle Ultimate 12 is a lot faster, a WHOLE lot faster, doesn't crash (same computer that I used to test PRE 8) and has a lot of slick features that make this an amateur film maker's dream. I have to say, if you had to pick one over the other, I'd probably say, go with Pinnacle. Though I still prefer some of the fine control over transitions and sound that I know how to do in Adobe Premiere, I was able to make a fine little film in a short time, add effects and render it completely with no issues. This was not the case with Premiere--that took hours.

Some of the bells and whistles; your own effects editor, special effect plug-ins if you want to used canned effects (glow, stained glass, water wave, water drop, earthquake, old film scratches--love that one.) There are a multitude of sound effects and you can buy even more on supplementary cds available from Pinnacle.

The "funnest" thing was that a Chromakey color backdrop was included in the package. This bright Kelly Green cloth is used to film you and your family at home, then put the stills you stole from Cousin Jack's digital slide show of his vacation to France and pretend you all went there by dropping your family video in front of the still photos. Add rude sounds as required (burp sound clips are included.) Or do your own Star Trek video. Very many possibilities for creativity.

I was really impressed. And the software functioned flawlessly for me, though installation was rather lengthy. (20 minutes including plug-ins.) But worth it. Great software.

Customer Review: Installation is painfully slow, awfully slow, horribly slow
Summary: 2 Stars

The installation brings your computer almost to a halt. Took over two hours to get the software and its latest (online) update to install. It's like waiting for a 80's software install to complete. Who knows what it put on my machine b/c what could require that amount of memory.
