Software Reviews of Rosetta Stone Spanish (Latin America) Level 1, 2 & 3 Set with Audio Companion

Customer Review: Never Bought It, Never Will. THANK YOU!
Summary: 1 Stars

Thank you for telling me about this product before I bought it. I am so glad I didn't jump in with both feet before researching others' opinions. Not having a head for learning languages, I believed every word the advertisements said about these products. I'm sorry for any of you who had to fork out the bucks to learn a valuable lesson. I think I'll take an evening course at the local community center. Thanks again!

Customer Review: Good product, terrible customer service
Summary: 2 Stars

I had extreme difficulty loading Rosetta Stone on my laptop. During the process, the program told me that there was an update I should download from their website, but doing so caused fatal errors. I tried contacting their customer service department via phone. The first time I tried, the phone simply rang and rang until I finally hung up. The second time I tried, I was put on hold for 40 minutes, when I gave up. The third time I tried, I actually got through to a real human being (after being on hold for over 30 minutes), who took my name and then managed to disconnect me. I then gave up entirely and, after restoring my computer to a point before I had loaded Rosetta Stone, got it working without the update that was highly recommended. It works okay, with some glitches in the voice recognition area. I'm somewhat satisfied with the product as a language teaching system, although not as thrilled as I had expected to be, given its glowing reviews. Rather than a logical progression in material, there seems to be quantum leaps in levels of difficulty.

Customer Review: software
Summary: 1 Stars

The product arrived slow but within the shipping time frame, however it was not a legitamite US program. It came direct from China not the US (none of this was mentioned when we bought the program). I was under the impression that I was getting a real legit program. If I wanted a illegal copy I would not have paid 400 for it. THe seller was all to happy to let us return the copy as well as for the return shipping but we had to argue to get that done. Guess he didn't want us to turn him in!!! Buyer beware when dealing with this seller. If you are going to shell out over 400 - go to the rosetta stone website and buy it there - I learned the hard way!! However if you want to over pay for an illegal US product then by all means order from him, otherwise go else where as you can get copies way cheaper than this guy sells them for.
Over all NOT PLEASED with my ordering from this seler!!!

Customer Review: Don't buy
Summary: 1 Stars

I purchased the program, but found it confusing and hard to navigate. Poor program overall. Worse, when I attempted to sell on Ebay, Rosetta Stone canceled the auction. You DON'T own the program even if you purchase - Rosetta claims ownership and will threaten to sue if you try to sell, even if the product was never used. I will never buy their products.

Customer Review: Excellent Language Learning Software - Although Different from Classical Language Learning
Summary: 4 Stars

I tried this software out in several languages, and found the learning process to be very easy and intuitive. I'd recommend it for learning a language, although it will never compare to living in a foreign country and speaking only that language.

Pros:
Rosetta stone's process is a lot better than traditional "current language word = foreign language word" learning processes, which rely on memorization and lead to internal translation from the foreign language to one's native language while speaking. Rosetta stone converts foreign words straight to pictures and ideas, eliminating internal translation to one's native language. There is plenty of repetition of previous words, but at no point does the process seem like rote recitation.

The software is divided into "lessons" which introduce new words, and have several exercises including matching, pronouncing each part of the word, verbally filling in blanks with your new words, etc. There is plenty to keep you interested and ensure that you learn new words and phrases.

The voice recognition was decent, a simple training has the program hearing you correctly ~90% of the time, and an adjustable slider can reduce the pickiness the software has if you're having issues, although that also controls how strictly you want to be held to pronunciation.

Cons of Rosetta Stone:
-It's expensive
-The approach in rosetta stone does not use conjugations or grammar rules, you just learn words and phrases. Some maybe bothered by this.
-Many other reviews note technical problems, I had no issues on my PC running windows XP.
