Customer Review: Even Better features and performance
Summary: 5 Stars

My first try with Roxio easy media was version 9. Now I have the Ultimate Version with a video adaptor. At first glance 2009 doesn't look very different than 9 but there are now a bunch of new things that make it a different enough program.
Video with Videowave and cinemagic: each program has a few more options from 9. The biggest change I found was the soundtrack. It is now much easier to do. It also edits HD video. None too soon considering tv broadcast changes.
Music: Biggest changes here. It makes batch formatting changes and rips disks from several drives at once. The automix is more elaborate.
Photo: It makes autofixes. If I don't like the results I can use the manual setting changes. More album and slideshow formats.
Gadgets: This is new and makes the program a step above others. I can take any media file and convert it to my phone and ipod. It works the other way by sending media to the pc from the gadgets.
Disk burning: Burning is relatively the same but complementary tools are better. It catalogs the disk contents, something I felt was needed in 9. It burnsHD and blueray disks on regular disks. This version also has a BD plugin to use real BD disks and writers.
The adaptor is not much different from others except there's a lot more programs to support the new digital video.

Customer Review: Worst Software
Summary: 1 Stars

I've come across some awful and expensive software (like Cakewalk 6~9), but this one takes the cake. It's an intrusive, clunky, resource hog which wouldn't work correctly if the hand of god glided over it.

Right now, it's 12:41AM and I've been trying for the past 8 hours to get MyDVD (Part of this Roxio package) to make a DVD of a vacation I recently took. I'm an IT professional, and I was absolutely baffled on GUI on these interfaces. The only consistency here is that every interface has it's own flavor of 'clunk' to it.

INTERFACE BUGS...
For instance, I'm trying to setup the menu and sub-menus; And, while I'm working it's actually flaking out and moving the graphical elements all over the page. I've had to work on the same menu now 20 times. Not to mention, you must click on the sub-menu icon to navigate to it. But when you attempt to click on it, it moves out of position in the page. Which means if you don't like the new position...too bad...because you're going to have to move the sub-menu graphic back to your original strategic location.

Some of the setup menu's for the objects in MyDVD don't work, or have bugs. For instance, there's a color palette fill in one of the sub-menu's which doesn't work.

I can go on and on about all the interface bugs throughout Roxio 2009, but I'm going to spare that chapter and go to the next.

RESOURCE HOG AND CUMBERSOME...
This software is 2gigs+ out of the box. Which means when you install it, you'll probably be left with 2kb of hard drive space left. They could have saved SOME real space had they used the DIALOG boxes that comes with Windows XP & Vista. But no, Roxio had to be different and create new, cumbersome, confusing, over elaborate dialog boxes. This obviously means that whatever you're doing in the new dialog boxes will take 3 times longer. My experience has been that they're clunky, taking sometimes 5~10 seconds to perform a refresh or task in the Roxio dialogs.

UPON INSTALLATION...
Roxio must have designed this software with the idea that you'll never need to have or install other software. Because the installation package loads up many large programs, WHICH MANY after installation LOAD WITH WINDOWS. I'm baffled, as I look at the list of all the new Roxio related programs in Windows Task Manager. Not to mention, ZoneAlarm is prompting me every 10 seconds with some resource it's trying to mess with...or the FACT THAT IT'S TRYING TO ACCESS THE INTERNET constantly. Here's a another snare in the Roxio sucker net...it would be nice if I could choose the Roxio programs I WANT TO INSTALL, versus Roxio INSTALLING EVERYTHING ON MY COMPUTER!!

As you can see in my review... I'm furious. I'm going to make a recommendation here... DON'T BUY THIS SOFTWARE!!! Treat the positive ratings with a grain of salt...because they're probably from the Roxio Sales and Programming staff.

I bought Roxio 2009 Ultimate, but I figured I'd tell you guys who wanted to spend $49 instead of $99.

DON'T BUY THIS SOFTWARE!!!

For me few product live up to its hype. The number of programs and features listed was incredible and as long as a few things I needed work I knew I'd be satisfied. On my pc nearly all programs I've used came through. Some specifics:
Blu-Ray burning/editing, Included with Ultimate but not other skus unless bought separately as far as my research went. Yes I have Blu-Ray and its worth it for me. Sports videos are much clearer and worth the extra bucks for this fan. Of course I could have gotten this separate but with the other programs and adaptor it was the way for me to go. High-res menus included.
Video adaptor, Enclosed in box. Lightweight and small so shipping weight is low. Plug in and start converting.
Video programs, 2 enclosed. One lets the program make editing decisions and is quick. The other requires a lot of hands on operation.

Photo programs, Touchup options run the gamut of multiple layer & image editing to simple color correction. Makes HD photo shows.

Sound programs, A mixture of very basic to tops in its field. Sound editing has elementary functions except for sound enhancer. BIAS Soundsoap eliminates unwanted noise and even restores sound. Music programs are stronger. Playlist creator, auto tagging are good. Custom music tracks included. It's quicker than using commerical music and if there is a problem using copyrighted material this is the way to go.
This is packed to the hilt.

Customer Review: Similar to previous Roxio products -- BAD

I don't know why I got the Roxio Creator Ultimate 2009, considering all the problems I've had with the previous versions of Roxio. I am pretty computer savvy but even with a non-tweaked, newer system (Vista) it was a problem to install and crashes all the time. This happened with the previous versions on my stable XP machine also. Fool me thrice, I'm an idiot for buying this.

Customer Review: Tech deficient people can use it too

For years I've been able to get senior members of the family to use Roxio software and not just rely on device functions. There is a lot more control and versatility with using media editing programs. With the holidays nearing my father finally dumped his 8mm camcorder and got a digital one. It also reminded us that it was time to deal with the tapes and get rid of the 8mm player tapes. I bought him the Ultimate version since he had already learned Creator 8 and wouldn't have to struggle so much with a new software program. The Ultimate box includes a video adaptor. At home we've been processing the tapes and getting them into shape. Version 8 didn't have the video chapter cutting software. This is even easier to use than the previous version. It has taken little time to add the id titles for all the clips. I can see that VideoWave has added more effects, but are main focus has been on getting the tapes done. Later we can go back and make changes.
Video file size can add up fast so we've been taking advantage of the file compression. This has lessened the number of disks we used for backup. We are also preparing some holiday dvd gifts by copying dvds. The enhanced burning speed is welcome since we have to burn a large number. We chose the dvd-vcr format since everyone has some sort of dvd player. We also plan to show some custom made clips during the holiday gathering. I still like that Roxio keeps the average user in mind. Many members of my family get frustrated with heary tech terms. I would recommend this program for almost everyone and not worry about your technical experience.
