Software Reviews of Roxio Creator 2009 [OLD VERSION]

Customer Review: It does what it advertises
Summary: 5 Stars

Simple to use and it does exactly what it advertises. I used Movie Maker, Sony Vegas and Video Studio. Finally I found Video Studio intuitive to me and with the exact amount of options I need. I used it for about two years with Windows XP with a high level of satisfaction. It also performed well under Vista but... problems started when I purchased a Canon camcorder that produces MTS2 files and a Canon camera that produces MOV movies. Video Studio presented the following problems: 1) Unable to handle HD MTS2 files (chunky audio and video during editing) 2) crashed when editing the MOV files. Without much hope I tried Roxio that I had been using for all (including DVD burning - no problems at all) except for editing movies. When loading the HD file, Roxio automatically suggested to convert it to MPG, I agreed and I could edit without any single problem. No chunky audio or video. No slowness. (I have an HP Intel Core 2 Quad processor, 8 GB RAM and 7.500 RPM hard disk with Vista 64). In a matter of a few days I came to the conclusion that Roxio is as intuitive (even simpler) and powerful as Video Studio but much more stable, at least under the conditions I described above. Just for information purposes: I loaded the converted HD MPG file to Video Studio and it performed better but not as good as Roxio). I have no doubts in recommending this product but of course, download and evaluate the trial version first. Editing movies is not a stable thing! 5 stars to Roxio.

Customer Review: Lost Money
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought Roxio because I couldn't link my Sony HDR-SR7 camera to my Windows Home Premium 64 bit machine. Sony pretends to support 64 bit but I couldn't get their download and install instructions to work and I'm no slouch on the computer so I think Sony simply doesn't support 64 bit. Roxio says it does, so I took a chance, and now I'm out $70. Supposedly, there's a $20 mail in rebate but don't plan on collecting it. I didn't save the box the Sony Camera came in years ago and that's enough to kill the rebate promise as far as Roxio is concerned.

But the rebate is only the first of the promises that Roxio doesn't keep. When I import video using Roxio the lower half of the picture is greyed out. Roxio seems to be basically a jpg organizer that supposedly handles video. And when I went to use the video editor, it was so clumsy that I reverted to the free Windows Movie Maker. So the entire $70 is now down the drain.

Save your money on this one. You're going to feel that you've been stung if you buy it. I'm surprised that there are any positive reviews. I guess the Roxio marketing team are active on Amazon as well. I should have heeded the negative reviews and so should you.

Customer Review: Only Thing This Bloatware Creates Is Coasters
Summary: 1 Stars

I made the mistake of buying the downloadable version of Roxio (Coaster) Creator 2009 directly from Roxio. Unfortunately, I didn't read the reviews (my bad!). Here's a list of the problems I noticed within a few minutes of installing it:

-- The program is a hopeless piece of bloatware. It slows down an i7 with 8 gigs of premium RAM and a WD VelociRaptor hard drive to a CRAWL.

-- No options for a custom install. It just installs everything, whether you want it or not.

-- It comes with a major bug that causes the main program to crash. You can only open individual components. An update fixed this, but why didn't they include the update in the file I downloaded?

-- The installation DELETES the install file I downloaded. I don't know if this is an attempt to keep me from installing it on more than one computer or an attempt to force me to buy their "extended download service," but it's very annoying. What if I had to reformat and reinstall all my software? (I'll be doing this anyway, MINUS the Roxio trash; see below). I made a backup, so I still have the downloaded file. Unfortunately.

-- Of the first five discs I tried to burn, it ruined four of them, including a $10 BD-R disc. But hey, now I have a killer set of beer coasters! Thanks, Roxio.

After playing around with it for a few hours, I found nothing but problems. Looking through reviews here, I see many complaints of the same problems I had, and I can personally confirm that none of the one-star reviews here is unwarranted.

I uninstalled the software, but its tentacles are dug in deep. Something it added to the registry is causing BSODs. I will end up reformatting my hard drive to eliminate this joke that Roxio calls software. Once that's done, I will be looking into Nero. Roxio's software has gotten worse with every version the past several years, but the 2009 version is the one that will finally cause me to dump them, once and for all. It gets one star only because that's the lowest rating available.

Customer Review: Wish I could rate it a minus 5
Summary: 1 Stars

Roxio reminds me of Norton, if you load it and it starts messing up, (and it usually does), you can never completely get rid of the program. I unintentionally installed it when I loaded Blackberry Media Manager. I love the BB but you would think they could figure out how to sync your songs between a BB and your PC without using this Roxio garbage. Sonic Solutions, the parent company of Roxio, has gone from a $20+ stock to $3.00 in less than 5 years. Bad products > falling stock prices > layoffs > no customer support > bankrupt. What really gets me is when you go to Roxio's website help and type in the error message, you get zero results, as if it's not a problem. If you type in the error message into Google, it auto completes before you're half finished typing and you get thousands of results. How could it be so prevalent on the internet and Roxio support doesn't have a single comment? Avoid this company and this horrible software.

Customer Review: Unusable program

I purchased Roxio Creator 2009 and it locked up during installation. I then tried to install it in another computer and it also locked up during installation. I returned it to store for credit.
