Software Reviews of Roxio Toast 10 Titanium

Customer Review: Yet another version with a big problem
Summary: 1 Stars

There's always some hope that a company
will overcome it's continuing problems with
badly created products and almost non-existent tech support,
but in the case of Roxio, it is quite amazing
the maze of difficulties that one encounters
with each release of their Toast Titanium software.
I usually try to use this to do one simple
thing: create a music DVD. In the case of the
latest number 10 (actually, I even upgraded to
its currently latest version of 10.0.5), it is
more of the same hair-pulling frustration
that you got with the other versions -
this time with its continual crashing.
It can barely make it into a few minutes work
when it just disappears and you're left with nothing.
I haven't even upgraded to Snow Leopard yet
and I'm reading about the problems that are happening
in that OS as well, so if someone has any ideas about
what other product out there that does more than
pretend to make a beautiful looking (graphics inclusive)
music DVD, then I'm all ears.

Customer Review: Disappointing...Poor Support
Summary: 2 Stars

So far Toast 10 Titanium has been very disappointing. I purchased it primarily for the purposes of Tivo Transfer and DVD burning.

I loaded the Install disc and downloaded the latest upgrade 10.0.5 from Roxio onto iMac with Snow Leopard.

Then I utilized Tivo Transfer of a 2:30 program that took 3 hours. I was patient and could dealt with that. However, i tried to view the video. The screen showed distorted and highly pixelated images.

After reading through many customer comments, I downloaded an earlier upgrade 10.0.4 and am now able to view the video with no issues. The installation of 10.0.4 required me to delete Toast altogether.

However, I am NOT able to burn a DVD. The DVD burn of MPEG2 stalls at trying to Encode. After leaving it overnight trying to encode there was no progress and then I stopped the process. No messages or process report.

I have contacted Roxio customer support via e-mail and have yet to receive a response after 6 days.

So without customer support, I will delete toast again. Load from CD entire program and then upgrade to 10.0.4. Maybe there was some component that is on the CD that was not in the upgrade. I really don't know.

My opinion of this is that the product is that it does not perform as described, documentation is not helpful as written by Roxio, and Roxio does not support it's product.

Hope your experience is better than mine.

Customer Review: Toast works Great for Burning and Verifying CD/DVD media
Summary: 5 Stars

I have been using Toast for many years now and Toast 10 for almost a year and have been very satisfied with it. I am not a Tivo user and that seems to be what many of the complaints are about. I use this program for burning many different types of CD/DVD's formated for audio (including AIFF and MP3's), video (DVD/DIVX/VCD/SVCD), disc copying as well as data (HFS/FAT32/ISO9660/Hybrid) on both Intel and PPC Macs on almost daily basis and rarely have had problems with it (maybe a half dozen program crashes over the past year, maybe).

I have burned at least 500 disks (DVD and CD) over the past year with it and the verify feature has helped me to catch a lot of media issue problems. If people are complaining about burning a lot of coasters, please understand that there is a lot of garbage media on the market (even under "Quality Brand Names") as well as burners which can not burn different brands of media and you will not know this unless you verify the data on the media after burning it. This is NOT a problem with the burning software, but the media and burners (weak lasers). To me, the verify after burn feature is a reason in itself to buy Toast, as the Mac does not normally verify a burned CD/DVD after burning it (especially for data CD/DVD's).

The only complaints I have with Toast (Roxio) is that they do not ship the full versions of DiskCatalogMaker, Disk Cover 2, or Get Backup 2 with Toast. I really dislike it when companies act like they are doing one a favor when they include a disabled version of another companies software with their own (I would take away a half star for this but Amazon appears to only work with whole stars in the rating). I suspect this is the problem with the "Tivo Transfer" and "Streamer" programs that other people have vehemently disliked in the other posts and may explain why Roxio can not help them with it. I do not use them so I do not know if this is the case or not. I also agree with a previous poster that I would not buy Toast just for the "CD Spin Doctor" program either. It is a nice audio capture program, but Audacity will do the same thing for free. I can not speak to Roxio's ability to respond to users since I have not needed their help since Toast 7.

Bottom line, Toast is great at what it does - Burn data to media and verify it was burned correctly. It can also be used for copying disks that the Mac does not normally support as well as burning it in formats the Mac does not normally support. I have even used it as a diagnostic tool for discs the Mac does not normally recognize. But beyond that do not expect a lot as you are using software they have not written and as such they may not be able to support well.

Customer Review: disaster!
Summary: 1 Stars

It's a first time I am writing the review, but it's the first time I got so frustrated with a new software. I used Toast 5 for years, but decided to switch to Toast 10, when I upgraded my computer's operating system to OS 10 6. Don't bother! Please believe all the previous negative reviews, they are 100% accurate. It just pathetic: this program crashes every second time you are trying to use it. They write in their manual: "you might want to reinstall the program when it malfunctions". Yeaaahh, like.... every second time you want to burn the CD!. And just forget about their Spin Doctor.

Customer Review: Excellent
Summary: 5 Stars

I recommend Toast 10 for anyone wanting to burn any kind of CD and DVD on their Mac.
