Software Reviews of SmartDisk MVPCustomer Review: Does not live up to expectations Summary: 1 Stars
Reading the description of this software package lead me to believe that this would be an outstanding way to send pictures to freinds and relatives who have either a DVD player or computer. Two main objections to the software. First, the picture quality of the playback on a computer is dismal. It stretches the images from top to bottom, and the resolution is very, very poor. Second, the software is supposed to encode .mpg files along with pictures to allow a slideshow that includes small video files (which I can take on my digital camera). When I tried to create a slideshow with a couple of those movies included, I received errors that told me the source file was corrupt and could not be used, even though I could view it through the player. I tried several different files, none of which worked. I then went to the MVP support page. There I was told that this was a common problem when you do not have "perfect" source file. It went on to explain that many viewers will "overlook" these problems but the encoding software within MVP can not deal with these issues. So none of the small .mpg files that I shoot with my digital camera will work on this software. It is a shame that the software does not work, this company has a great idea, but extremely poor execution. The software is going back.
Description of SmartDisk MVPOnce you start building up a large collection of digital media, it gets hard to manage it all. SmartDisk MVP collects your media files into albums and allows you to keep track of all your digital pictures, videos, and music in one place, making it easy to browse, print, or burn them to CD. Whatever type of file you're working with, the interface is the same and you can add all new files to SmartDisk's album's, automatically ready to label, search, browse as thumbnails, print out, or burn onto a Video CD that can be played on many DVD players. SmartDisk MVP comes with a handy bundle of extras to make the most of your files and newly burned CDs. FotoCanvas is a simple image editing package with a red-eye filter and other tools for fixing problems with your photos. PowerDVD lets you play back Video CDs (and DVDs) on your PC, and the Neato CD labeling kit lets you print labels and apply them to your CDs. The only limitation with this software is that you have to record an entire CD at one time (Disk At Once) rather than being able to record files onto a CD-RW in batches (packet writing). But if you don't need that functionality, SmartDisk MVP is a simple way to keep tabs on your media files and make Video CDs that can be enjoyed on TV and PC. --Mary Branscombe, Amazon.co.uk SmartDisk MVP allows you to combine your digital music, video, and pictures into albums and slide shows, and burn these presentations onto CDs. The CD-burning process is accomplished with a single click. You can play your discs using a PC, DVD, or CD player. Beyond attractive custom presentations, SmartDisk MVP allows you to organize all your digital content into an easily searchable archive. The software also simplifies the process of printing out images, either from still-shots or video captures, and lets you use these images to create covers for your CD creations.
