Software Reviews of VMware Fusion 2 [OLD VERSION]

Customer Review: VMware - the best in virtualization
Summary: 5 Stars

Others have covered most of what I want to say, but I thought I'd add a few comments.

First, VMware really rocks on my 8-core Mac Pro. For some reason I don't quite understand, it runs some Windows benchmarks within a virtual machine *faster* than booting Windows natively on the box! Graphics-intensive apps seem to do better natively, but anything that does lots of I/O seems to run faster under VMware.

The other thing I wanted to mention is that it's really more than just Windows on a Mac - you can run just about any Intel operating system within VMware. On my Mac Pro, I have Linux (both RedHat and SuSE/Novell) and a few other old Intel-based operating systems - even a very old OS/2. Honestly, this helped me justify the price of my Mac Pro - one box runs Mac, several versions of Windows, Linux and so on. And they all run really well... :)

Great job, VMware!

Customer Review: Perfect

Fusion meets my needs perfectly. I have one particular Windows application that I need to run on my Mac, and with Unity, it runs as if it were native. A great product!

Customer Review: Very easy to use
Summary: 5 Stars

I decided to move away from windows to Mac OS due to stability and performance. I have many applications in windows for my homeopathic practice and could not afford unexpected crashes in the middle of interview with patients, which is a common phenomenon in windows. Originally I had Parallels 3 and it worked OK. it was slow but did the job. When i upgraded to Snow leopard i could no longer use parallel and they would not support version 3 in the new operating system, they urged people to buy their version 4. so i downloaded Fusion 2 and the steps to import Parallel into Fusion was extremely easy without any problem. Once i imported the virtual machine it worked like a charm in Snow leopard. I like it, it is very easy to use and windows starts a lot faster than when using parallel. also shut down and sleep modes are fast and reliable.
The only problem which i believe is common between the two virtual machines is that if you copy images (jpg or others) in Mac OS you cannot paste them in windows applications. this is true from windows to Mac os apps as well.

Customer Review: Seamless intergration
Summary: 5 Stars

Fusion 2 is superior to Parallels & Bootcamp by a long shot. When Fusion is open you get a miniature Windows icon on the Dock just like other open files & folders. You can move back and forth between Windows apps & Mac apps, with both open at the same time. You can even keep Windows apps on the Dock, if desired. No rebooting required. When you shut down your Mac, Fusion first must be closed & after restarting your Mac Fusion must be reopened - when it's opened, Windows automatically opens.

With the free upgrade to version 2.05 it works just fine with Snow Leopard, although VMware says this is an "experimental" version with a revision in the works for Snow Leopard use. After installing Fusion 2.05 I had some strange behavior with some Windows apps - ex., Quicken 2009 wouldn't backup - but after restarting Windows everything was back to normal & has remained that way. When sharing a printer or external hard drive with Mac & Windows you need to click a Fusion icon at the bottom of the Windows window to activate or deactivate these.

You get a months' free phone support & I had excellent help from a VMware tech.

Highly recommended.

Customer Review: Not able to review the software as I have been unable to use it
Summary: 3 Stars

I have been unable to use the soft ware as I am unable to find my Windows XP disc even tough I have the number to enable to load it. I do not wish to buy a new version of the software as I only have two programs to use the software. It would have been useful to know where to obtain free downloads of windows XP
