Software Reviews of Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9Customer Review: Excellent video editing and DVD creation software. Summary: 5 StarsMovie Studio 9 Platinum does a great job of handling both standard and high definition (AVCHD) video files. It takes some time and effort to learn how to use it correctly, but it's worth it. Sony also has some excellent online video tutorials located on its software products website.
In my opinion, Movie Studio 9 Platinum is superior to Corel's VideoStudio X2 software which has some nice features, but doesn't handle the high definition files as well.
I recommend that you try both and then decide which one is right for you.
Customer Review: stable.. have not crashed yet Summary: 4 StarsBeen using Vegas since Version 1, when it was Sonic Factory,
Version 8 is really good. did several wedding videos and a few company projects with no software crash thus far.
Instant review of video without pre-rendering is great.
lots of features hidden away..
This version had a little problem with some flv to mpg conversions (which version 8 imported fine)
Hope the minor problem will be fixed in an update in the future. update 12b available [...]
Imports from DV cameras with one click. Unlike Avid products which keeps crashing.
Customer Review: buggy, but better than WMM Summary: 4 StarsI bought this product because it allows for up to four sound tracks, while Windows Movie Maker only allowed for two. It has slightly better features than WMM, and included DRM free music, but missing a few good effects that WMM has.
My #1 biggest complaint about this product is that it adds in random jumps in the video after compilation. I found that if you increase the default buffering to like 500mb or more, the random jumps stop occuring. Just a bad bug, I guess.
My second biggest complaint is that the only codec that works well enough with it is .wmv. I dislike .wmv because it cannot do the color white (all white changes to a light grey). It also takes 3x longer than WMM to make a video using the .wmv codec. Not sure why . . .
That said, its still better than WMM and worth the money.
Customer Review: Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9 Summary: 5 StarsI've always been a Final Cut Pro, Mac guy. Needed something in the middle of kid stuff and advanced. Studied & bought Movie Studio 9 because it looked like it fit the bill. The DVD creator was icing on the cake. So far, so good. Really doing a stand up job. I have to admit, after using FCP for many years, I'm impressed with the stability of this app. Many free apps on win platform that can do "other" things that fall out of the realm and that's fine by me too. No brainer for the cha-ching. Glad I got lucky on the first shot. XP on a AMD Phenom X4.
Customer Review: Not Pleased Summary: 1 StarsI looked at all the $100 range programs and decided to get the Sony, thinking it would be the most error free, boy was I wrong. The Vegas program on the disc did not run at all on my computer (dell Optiplex core 2 4 gig). I looked on the website and sure enough, there was a problem with an earlier version (the one I got), which sometimes the program wouild not start. I downloaded the newer version and the program finally ran. As others have said, Sony customer support was non-existent. Once I got the prgram to run, it would not capture audio through my dazzle (video was fine). I ended up using windows movie maker for capture. Imported it to Vegas, made some changes and went to make movie. Did this and then DVD Architect, will not run at all! I can't make movies!
