Software Reviews of Vegas Movie Studio 8 Platinum Edition [OLD VERSION]Customer Review: Quick convenience vs control Summary: 4 StarsI went from using Windows Movie Maker to Vegas Movie Studio 8 Platinum Edition. I lost a lot of quick convenient presets but gained intimate control over all transitions in my movies.
Customer Review: Good Luck Getting Your Rebate & Updating Summary: 1 StarsProduct is OK. Fairly user friendly and does job for what I need. However, I would not recommend buying this software for 3 reasons. First, it is month 4 after purchase and I have yet to receive my rebate. Second: I have tried repeatedly to install the free upgrade to the package with no success. And finally, the initial installation itself was made extremely difficult by Sony's registration and validation process. After 2 phone calls (which I am pretty sure got routed to a call center in India)and 45 minutes on the phone, I was able to get the software installed. I would not purchase this software unless you are really OK with all of the labor and time involved and of course NOT getting the money back promised to you by Sony and not backed up by Amazon.
Update 10/22/08: Amazon should not sell anymore Sony products with rebates. A short internet search combined with my awful experience confirms that it is almost impossible to get your rebate. Amazon should force Sony to just give customers the reduced price up front.
Customer Review: Sony's Vega Movie Studio 8 Platinum Edition is EVERYTHING YOU NEED!!! Summary: 5 StarsI was referred to the Vegas Movie Studio 8 Platinum by someone that has vast knowledge with developing VS4. I was telling them that I couldn't get the chroma-key feature to work very well with their program, and they suggested I purchase Vegas 8. Within an hour of getting Vegas, I had my chroma-key work finished, and published my video to the web. Very pleased! I have also used the audio editing features many times since I purchased Vegas 8. I subscribe to a 4 hour daily MP3 download of a popular AM broadcast that runs while I'm sleeping, and the files come in 4 parts to reduce download size. I now easily drop the 4 files into Vegas, select all, group, and render the files into one customized file. Works GREAT! I like to poke around with programs, but honestly, I bought Vegas to "bang-out" the chroma-key video and be done with a project that was already over due. You can view my video and judge for yourself. I placed a .jpg background, and dropped the video right on top and chroma-key'd out the green screen. Go to (in code, of course) double-u double-u double-u dot mysaturnjob dot com, and select "Watch The Video". Again, this was done with Sony Vegas Movie Studio 8 Platinum Edition in about 60 minutes, with NO experience at all (I opened up the VERY intuitive help feature and followed the instruction). For the price, I think that I've already got my money's worth, and as with ALL my Amazon.Com purchases, super fast shipment with absolutely NO problems. Thanks and good luck with your purchase. ONE LAST THING...PLEASE let me know if my review helps you out. Personally, I find reviews very helpful so I would like to know if you agree or disagree. Thanks!!! TBB
Customer Review: Feature-rich program. A versitile product Summary: 4 StarsAfter four baseball seasons with Pinnacle Studio (upgrading every year), I told myself that I would use a different video editing program to make my son's baseball team video. I was tired of the little bugs, glitches, and incompatibilities associated with Pinnacle, and so I decided to shop around. After quite a bit of research I liked the reviews I read about Sony Vegas Movie Studio - and it was more affordable than I had expected. I was a bit intimidated at first, because it is more sophisticated than Pinnacle, but I knew that I would eventually reap the rewards if I forced myself to tackle the learning curve. What has been a savior for me is all of the great instructional tips available on YouTube. They have motivated me to learn new techniques and imagine new ways of using this great program. My only complaint is the Quick Start Operating Manual; if you are over 40 years old, the small type is a bit hard to read. Oh well.... I'm in the middle of my 5th baseball video (the last one was 28 minutes long) and I am so glad that I "swallowed the red pill".
Customer Review: Not as easy as it may appear to be. Summary: 4 StarsI purchased this product because I read reviews that it was easy to learn. Don't always go by what you read because the ones that rate it probably have experience editing videos. If you know how to use the program, I'm sure it's awesome, but for me....you need a degree in video editing to be able to understand it.
