Software Reviews of Vegas Movie Studio 8 Platinum Edition [OLD VERSION]Customer Review: Highly Recommended Summary: 5 StarsI found this product to be stable, versatile, and easy to learn. I would recommend it highly. I would suggest that a potential user download, from Sony, the 30 day trial of this software. The trial software is fully functional.
Customer Review: Not for 64-bit Summary: 1 StarsThe description on Amazon states nothing about 64-bit not being supported, and neither does the box. But it isn't, so beware. Sony refuses to support this product if you run it on XP or Vista 64-bit.
I would be happy to take part in a class-action lawsuit, since I've just wasted a lot of money and Sony refuses a refund for their unsupported product.
Customer Review: Plays well with Vista Summary: 4 StarsPicking Video editing software that worked with Vista was a concern. I had looked into several other products, but most had reviews that did not alleviate my concern even though they claimed Vista compatibility. So far I have not had any Vista compatibility issues. The installation was smooth and all functions are working without any lock ups. Even Windows Movie Maker locked up for me on Vista.
I have virtually no video editing experience. The software takes a little getting used to, but is not very difficult. Once you get the feel of it it is quite easy. I have even been able to capture video from my Sony Digital Camcorder using firewire connection. The software recognizes the camcoder and even controls its functions through the computer.
The one problem I ran into was that some AVI formatted video files are not supported by the software. I have a RCA Small Wonder which stores files in AVI format and these files could not be used by the software correctly. The Small Wonder has the capability to convert its files to MPG files and these are compatible with the software.
All and all I am very pleased with this purchase.
Customer Review: Advance user model Summary: 4 Stars
Starting my first time on Sony Vegas I found doing the simplest things was pretty easy to do. But advance editing was not easy to pick up. I had to watch several tutorials on YouTube to understand some of the more advanced features.
Customer Review: Vegas Platinum is GREAT! Summary: 5 StarsVegas Movie Studio 8 Platinum - to me, anyway - is very natural and instinctive to use. It is very powerful and allows a lot of manual control if you want it. I had tried to switch from Pinnacle Studio 9 to Final Cut Express V1.0 but I couldn't do it - the way they each work was too different. So I was worried about trying Vegas but it's actually easier to use in some ways than Pinnacle Studio 9 and I'm totally happy I made the switch.
It's possible, however, that you need to have a very fast machine. I had upgraded my Motherboard, CPU and RAM as well as trying the new software. So I can't say how well Vegas might work on an underpowered machine.
