Software Reviews of Vegas Pro 8 [OLD VERSION]Customer Review: CHECK FOR COMPATIBILITY with Vegas Pro 8 Summary: 4 StarsAfter researching camcorders and editing software way more than any human being should have to do, I ended calling Sony for clarification. If you can believe what they tell you (given the fact that I talked with 2 people who sounded like they'd just been hired), they finally did go ask "tech support" my compatibility questions. Apparently this is the only way to get info since you can't talk to them yourself until AFTER you purchase the product. (How convenient!)
Sorry, I digressed. Anyway, they tell me Vegas Pro 8 only works with hard-drive cameras (not flash drive camcorders) because of the AVCHD. If you want to use a Sony or any other flash drive camcorder, you must use Vegas Movie Platinum. Although I have not tried this myself yet since I'm still debating which items to purchase, this is consistent with other reviews I've read under the camcorders--SO BE CAREFUL WHEN MAKING YOUR CAMERA AND SOFTWARE SELECTIONS.
Problem # 2. Vegas Movie Platinum won't work with a Vista 64-bit operating system. Only Vista 32-bit.
You also need a fast computer, ideally a quad core, to run Vegas Pro 8.
Customer Review: Excellent product! It did 99 minutes Blu-ray project without crashes! Summary: 5 StarsExcellent product! It did 99 minutes Blu-ray project without crashes!
I used Adobe premier elements 3 before - maximum I could do was about 20 minutes High definition project with complicated rendering. It takes about 20 hour for it, Adobe used my 4 cores CPU only for about 30-40%%. I tried to find the most stable video editing software and Vegas Pro is what I need. I did 99 minutes High Definition project with 260 clips, each clip has Level and Sharpen effects using MPEG2 two pass rendering without problems. Vegas used about 95% of the CPU power; the project runs 19.5 hours without crashes.
Customer Review: Great Editing Package Summary: 5 StarsWe use Final Cut Pro on the Mac and Vegas Pro on a Windows Vista laptop and have been very happy. We use Vegas to edit and produce DVDs while in the field. Good features and very easy importing from a Cannon GL-2. Not as feature packed as Final Cut Pro but still a very good product.
Customer Review: Great Editing Software Summary: 5 StarsI bought a Sony HDR SR11 AVCHD video camera which i have been very happy with. Instantly you realize that you need editing software. After researching all the available software that will edit avchd i settled on Vegas pro 8.Its worked flawlessly. You will be making almost professional video in no time. Just go to youtube there are endless tutorials.I also use Vegas for editing all my music files and making mp3 cds. I've been making stop motion video with the grand kids. It's been a lot of fun and almost as good as some of the stuff on youtube. Just one more thing though you will have to go to newegg and put together a new computer with lots of hard drive space and a quad processor with a good video card or you are in for a lot frustration.
Customer Review: NOT COMPATIBLE WITH NEWER CANON HG21 Summary: 1 StarsJust bought a new Canon HG21 AVCHD and this software will not recognize it. Hooked up my older Sony Mini DV and it works fine. BEWARE! Sony claims UNRESOLVED ISSUES!
