My 11-year-old son loves the Cluefinders series. Even though the math in it is challenging for him (because speed is often necessary), the rewards are fun and motivating enough that he sticks with it until he beats the game. He also finds the characters and the setting amusing. I recommend it highly, especially as something for kids to play with over the summer.
Description of ClueFinders 6th Grade
In ClueFinders 6th Grade Adventures, you'll join the Cluefinders as they journey to the Empire of the Plant People! Important problem solving skills are also taught -- all in 15 fun activitiesClueFinders 6th Grade Adventures is a great way for children aged 10 to 12 years to consolidate their school learning while having fun. In this game, the ClueFinders are in an underground world populated by a mutant plant army that is planning to destroy the town above them. To make matters worse, two of the ClueFinders have been kidnapped: to stop the plants and rescue their friends, the remaining two ClueFinders have some problems to solve.
The puzzles in this adventure game give math, language, science, and problem-solving skills a workout through 15 different activities. Parents can set the skill levels to suit their children's ability, and can do this separately for different skills. As a bonus, ClueFinders 6th Grade Adventures comes with an Adventure Kit CD offering various fun activities, such as a map maker so you can plot treasure hunts or other map-based activities. --Sandra Vogel
Join the search for the missing ClueFinders in the underground empire ofthe Plant People. A mighty army of mutant plant warriors threatens to takeover the town. It's up to you to use your head to solve the mysteryand save the town from destruction. From cleaning up deadly pollutants tobuilding bridges, each activity is designed to build sixth grade skills inmath, language arts, science, social studies, and problem solving. Workyour way through four levels that increase in difficulty to match your growingskills, and take advantage of detailed help features when a particularlytough challenge slows you down. There's also a Real World Adventure Kit included in the program that allows you to create cool maps to guide your friends on treasure hunts. There's a logbook and calendar to plan activities, keep on schedule, and record your daily thoughts and achievements. You can create, encode, and print top-secret messages with the encoder/decoder, then help yourfriends decode them.
