Thanks to YNAB, I have a software program that makes bugeting almost fun. YNAB's features such as creating a budget and tracking spending, downloading bank transactions are very simple to understand and use. I can't wait to dive in even farther to see what I can do to make my money work for me.
I hate to budget, so I ignored it. I have used Money and Quicken but never thought the features were appropriate for me. I didn't like the budget feature in the programs because they were not user friendly and appeared to be an after thought. Also I don't have a stock portfolio or other major investments,so I always felt I was paying for and installing features I would never use or need!
A big thank you to YNAB'S support services for the prompt replies concerning my questions.

For most of us, budgeting software couldn't come at a better time. I read about the YNAB methodology about 2 years ago. I felt then that it was pretty darn nifty, but never got around to trying it out. Once YNAB Pro was released, I promised myself that I'd buy it for Christmas.
YouNeedABudget is not like Quicken or Microsoft Money or Mint.com. You don't simply import and track all of your transactions. Also, you don't just budget an amount for rent and then reconcile it for that amount later. You actually budget and assign a job to every dollar you have, right down to the last penny...EVEN if that job is simply "savings". The point is that you're putting every dollar to work in some way, and that is exactly the way you've decided it. You will always know exactly where your money is, and how you're spending/spent it. Thankfully, the YNAB Way still allows for you to adjust and alter things to your needs. Giving all my dollars a job has allowed me to budget and create "funds" for all sorts of things I know I'm going to be saving for, even video games that won't release for many months from now! So many dollars a month, and by then I'll have saved it all up.
YNAB is more than just the software. It's a complete way of living and spending your money. I won't lie to you. The reading can seem daunting at first. The 50-page manual isn't because the system is difficult. It's because YNAB wants to make sure that by the end you are completely in love and familiar with all aspects of the methodology. If you're like most people, you'll be dancing in your seat by page 10 just thinking of how much you'll save and how relieved you'll be at not having to dread just peeking at your bank account balance.

I gave this software a 4 out of 5, only because I am still in the initial stages of it. I have only had it two weeks, so I don't know how customer service is, or anything like that. As far as the software goes, its doing exactly what I want it too. I wish it uploaded though directly from my bank accounts, so I didn't have to add those transactions individually. If it does this, I haven't found that feature yet. Other than that its great.Customer Review: Great Software

I am very pleased with YNBA. I have tried budgeting on my own and with different types of methods and systems. They worked for a while until I grew tired of physically having to write down every transaction and then having to transfer each one to their own allocated category, it wasn't too bad but way too much writing, but this is by far the easiest and most simple system to use. After a very well explained and easy to understand start up process with an illustrated mini video clip to show you how to begin using this program you will be well on your way to getting a handle on YOUR finances and not YOUR finances getting a hold of you. Thanks YNBA you've made my finances work for me instead of me working for them.
